Blitzer beetle rebuild / ongoing runner project

Looks a mad Beetle for sure, never seen anyone so dedicated to one RC, wish I could concentrate on one for such a long time without getting distracted by other models!

Cheers :)

I have plenty of other cars but with regards to running them, I have been there and done that, when I got back in to the hobby I decided to focus on a single one and chose the Blitzer as I think it's a great all rounder, I like the idea of making one as good as I can (within reason) rather than splitting any R/C spends across multiple cars. :) I have since expanded on that and also have my Monster Beetle runner as I wanted a spare / another project :P

That said, once I finally buy myself a digital radio system I will get all my other cars in to a running state, some of which haven't turned a wheel for many years :o

Dusted the old boy off today to stretch its legs! Car ran great but sadly the battery I was using looks like it has degraded while stored so didn't get much run time from it, recharged this afternoon so hopefully give it another run tomorrow.

8 months on the shelf in the garage, chucked a pack in it and headed to the beach :) Didn't let me down :D

Got a real hankering to try a 3S in it, the sand paddles are fantastic fun but they don't half sap the juice.

Another beach run today, Stadium Thunder is now also running a 9T Turnigy and having both of the hurtling down the beach at full whack is very cool, they both look very quick but they can still be controlled!

I spent the whole time telling my nephew to be careful as he was heading back to us (sat on the beach wall) at full speed and I said you don't want to crash in to the only thing here to hit, just before we left I had a go of the Thunder, clipped the wall and snapped the out drive

Back home and fixed, back out Sunday hopefully :D

Love this. They both look ace. Do you have to clean them a lot after beach runnibg? I am quite keen to have a go but the drivetrain destruction puts me off.

The post run clean is certainly the worst part of beach running, I tend to use a couple of tooth brushes to get the worst of it off then a couple of hours later just shake off the remaining sand that has dried. Ultimately it's going to ruin the bearings but for the price of new ones I can live with that and I'll change them once a year. If it was a one time thing then a strip and clean would make it good as new but I'm going back time and time again so I'm not rebuilding after every run.

All that aside, for me it is the best place to run an off road car, bags of open space, cool drifts throwing up sand and you're unlikely to damage anything if you roll it or flip it in my experience, ice had some truly epic crashes at full speed 😂

This is a great thread. Iv recently dug my original out to run down the beach with my boy!!

Im looking to go Lipo for a bit more speed and the run time.

Can you give me a run down on your setup?! Esc? Motor. Iv looked for a Turnigy 9T but they seem to be discontinued. Battery?

Thanks :) Glad you enjoy the thread :D

My ESC is an Ezrun 35a, I originally bought an Ezrun combo but killed the original motor on the beach so I now run an identical spec'd Turnigy 4300kv / 9T motor.

You should be able to get a very similar combo on eBay, last time I checked GoolRC where the ones on there, in my limited experience with brushless, they're all basically the same thing rebranded.

Batteries are Turnigy 2S 4000 lipos, I reckon I get a good 20 minutes if not more out of pack and that is flat out all the time.

I'd say to be aware that you're really going to want a few supporting mods like hardened out drives and diff cups, not a great deal of money but you'll not get long out of the originals!

Anything else you want to know or I've forgotten feel free to ask :)

Ian your Blitzer beetle and stadium thunder look great and goes well on that 4300kv turnigy! I put a old Traxxas Vxl in mine and it flies!

What do I need to look for for the hardened drive cup set?

Try eBay and you will need to look for Touring car hard joint cup set 53218. It what i used on my Blitzer Beetle

Make sure its for gear diff not ball diff!

With my latest delivery I have now have a full compliment of tyres for all occasions :) I can see these being on for the majority of the time during the better weather months.

Finally bringing this up to date with the running gear now, became quite obvious that my old brushed motors really couldn't take extended abuse with the LiPo batteries so it's time to finally go brushless.

Very excited for the first run with the new goodies, doubt it will be until next weekend though :(

Where you got those tyres from?
