Well, I have removed the Type R from my beetle as it was destroying the gearbox in double quick time! I now have a TB 02 basher as stated before.

My questions - i want to put a slightly warmer motor in the beetle still, maybe a stock 27 with some more torque, any suggestions?

I see mention of 'shimming the gearbox' what exactly is that and how does it help??

Cheers

if you want to run a hot motor then you need a ball bearing diff ie a thorpe. they are amazing as i have just got one for my blackfoot it will help the handleing of the car.

i have never heard of shimming to diff, sorry

shimming is when you add a thin washer to take up the play in the diff.

you put a washer behind each bearing housing to press the diff gears together more to stop the slipping.....

but i can tell you from my personal experience this method isnt really that good and only lasts for a wile, as the shim washers will wear out and wear agaist the diff gears, really making the whole thing worse [V]

best bet is to buy a ball diff, or get a king blackfoot and stil a beetle body on it [:)]
