Anyone knowing what this is to Hilux 58028?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

Found this in Tamiya Hilux manual. "You can illuminate headlights with optional miniature light bulp"

is it Tamiya? I can't find any info at all about these… Would like to know! Picture from Hilux RA1028.

Any help would be appreciated!

The hilux predates the 50320 Light bulb set by a few years (I believe the 959 was the first to acknowledge it in a vehicle) and being there is no numerical reference in the hilux manual I doubt there was a light option manufactured for it. They are probably just refering to being able to use a small bulb similar to the ones in slot cars back in the day. Tamiya often offered extracurricular ideas in some of the early 80's manuals.

I also believe the glass bulbs in the 50320 set are far to big for the small holes in the hilux/bruiser headlights anyway unfortunately.

If i'm correct, Tamiya does 2 different sizes of LED, 3mm small and 5mm big. For my understanding, you should be just fine with the 3mm ones. They are either included in TLU-1/-2 sets but also available separately in white, red, blue (in pairs).

If you go with new items, make sure yo get the right ones, they do a olde fashioned yellowy white and that super white modern xenon look.

The leds are really cheap at Banzai, but you'll need a TLU-01 controller (still cheap at Banzai) so once you've collated just those to items you'll be at $30 or more. There's not a lot of scope for other lights on the 58028 unless you want to modify the shell.

Maybe look for a set for a model train ?

If you plan on using the tlu-01 or 02 then you can only use the tamiya LEDs specifically for them units.

But if you plan on only using the front LEDs then you can connect them using a resistor/capacitor birect to a 9 volt battery.

Matteo as used a yellow set of LEDs on one of his crawlers and they do look very nice

I asked my friend Trail Jero who's an electrician and he helped me so I can connect directly to

7,2 battery!

Cheers All!
