Hi guys,

I have a TT-02B and am having issues with dirt getting into the motor cover and causing loud ‘grinding’. I’ve been running it on a unused baseball field which consists of loose dirt and a lot of small rocks. I’ve had this problem before and purchased a heat sink to help prevent small rocks and dust from entering the motor through the fins. It works to a degree (the motor isn’t full of dirt) but the gearbox still is…

The gears are new and still seem to be in good shape but I’m sure with dirt and pebbles getting lodged in the gears, that won’t last long…

I’m wondering if maybe I can make some kind of foam or rubber ‘gasket’ to place under the cover to prevent this issue…I'm tired of having to take the cover off after each run and blowing out the dirt and debris with my air compressor. Also, having to constantly loosen/re-tighten the cover will probably eventually cause the screw mounts to strip.

Any ideas???

Can you post a couple of pics? Gear cover on and off? Off the top of my head I might suggest using silicon calking on the outside of the gear box but I'm not 100% sure where you're getting the pebble intrusion.

Hey, thanks for the reply…I can certainly do that. I haven’t figured out so much dirt is getting in there, it seems pretty sealed to me but it does kick up a lot of dirt when I run it through the field.

Interesting - I can't say I have ever had that issue with mine. Are you running the circular cardboard thing between the motor and motor mount? And which motor mount are you using?

I go around all spots of the gear cover and chassis with a bead of tacky grease then I put the cover on so it seals it all with a bead of grease ..Dis this with my TT02 rally and never got any dirt in the drive gears.

I think yours is the same.

Using velcro to secure the shell tighter to the chassis tub will help - a full length strip of velcro will help a lot.

The TT-02B tub is far better at keeping debris out than the silly slotted DF-02 one

Thanks, I’m using the ‘Yeah Racing’ aluminum motor mount and I did install the cardboard ‘gasket’ on the motor. In the past, I have used masking tape to help seal the cover but it doesn’t seem to keep everything out. I swear this dirt spot I run my car is bad luck…LOL

I thought about that, but I figured it would just be another entrance for dirt to get in

do what I said go around the whole motor mount outside edges with some thick tacky grease that will stay in place and then pop it in the chassis then put another bead of the grease all the way around the gear covers edges that seal up on the other parts of the chassis. also coat the motor spacer cardboard fiberglass disc thing with a the grease on both sides and make it just tacky. I did this and nothing gets in the gears.

Thanks, I will try that...did you use the tamiya aw grease?

Hi no I just used a thick grease I had from HPI it was green and tacky but not as tacky as the AW grease... any pretty thick grease will work just coat around all parts I spoke of above with a nice thick bead and coat the motor disk thing with some with your fingers so it's tacky so it seals against the motor and gearbox.

I'm using anti wear grease on my tt-02b never had a problem with dirt in the gearbox. I think the manual says aw grease should be used to seal it.

Here's an image after some bashing a muddy day. It was almost as much mud inside as on the outside. https://goo.gl/photos/WiTnepP2k1sLZFrf9

After math of this session was two bent aluminium a-arms and a cracked rear shock tower.
