New thread, for after the switch; http://www.tamiyaclub.com/forum/index.php?/topic/79556-server-move-on-the-23rd/

Hot off the teletype, from Chris;

Tamiyaclub.com will be upgraded shortly.

We are switching to a new provider and a brand spanking new bigger, better, faster machine in April.

Step 1 Is a straight transfer. We will be moving everything across like for like. This alone should make things much quicker.

Step 2 New site, this will hopefully come a few weeks after the move, and will be a complete overhaul of the site. At this point the site will be made responsive for all the growing number of mobile users, the whole process of interacting with the site will be reviewed, dead functionality will be culled and broken useful functionality fixed. This is a big job.

In order to complete step 1, We'll need to cause a bit of short term disruption on the site (The process of transferring 100gb of images across has already began)

Saturday 16th + Sunday 17th April. We will be upgrading the forum on the current website to the latest version. It should be relatively straight forward but maybe down for a while over this weekend. It will then be followed by the usual week of teething troubles as we make it how we want it.

Saturday 23rd + Sunday 24th April. Whole site moves to new server. Most of the work will be done before this date behind the scenes but this will be the weekend all the users start hitting the new site. This will involve the site being ofline for longer periods.

Updates will be posted to the home page during the process to keep people informed and we will also use twitter account @tamiyaclubcom and our facebook page for regular updates.

Both weekends we'll be looking to start at 8am.

As always you may visit the site between the periods and see it appearing to be working fine, but unless there is a notice saying the process has completed, anything you do may not be there after the transfer - so best stick to 'reading only'

You don't need a Facebook account to read the updates, our page can be viewed by anyone.

This post is also posted as an announcement at the top of every sub-forum

Only way to have a list is if the person/people doing the code work take notes as they tackle each piece of the code, given the layout of the time table, the amount of data to transfer, and the code work to be done, I'll be surprised if the coder/s have the time to make notes and compile an understandable list.

My first thought was why is this being done, although different in setup, I don't see anything broken, excluding old pic and site links that are dead that is.

Oh, and TWINSET, please don't think that thought needs an answer, coz I know once the new site is up and running I'll understand the why :D

Thanks for the heads up TS.

Lets hope we don't end up moving from what in my mind is a great easy to view layout for the forum to something that the designers believe is better but the users hate. I have seen it happen on more than one occasion and it just serves to kill the forum

Lets not get too pessimistic too soon - I'm not sure how many 'designers' are involved, but Chris is pretty switched on as to what works well with Tamiyaclub (and I'm not even being paid to say that!)

Thankfully 'you guys' doesn't include me, so I'll be finishing off the decking and mowing lawns this weekend.

New message on the homepage in case anyone's missed it;

April 2016:
Tamiyaclub.com is trading up. We are switching to a new provider and a brand spanking new bigger, better, faster machine in April.

FINAL WARNING! The site and forum will be down this weekend from 12:01AM Saturday morning UK TIME, possibly for the whole weekend, but hopefully a lot lot less - fingers crossed. Checking on our progress on facebook or twitter during the down time.

As always you may visit the site over the weekend and see it appearing to be working fine, but unless there is a notice saying the process has completed, anything you do may not be there after the transfer - so best stick to 'reading only'

Exciting times ahead.

Cheers
Chris

Quick heads up - Once it's back online, the forum will be slow for a while as it will be running optimisation which will begin once people are using it.

The more it gets used the faster it will run.

Not sure if this optimisation is an hours or days process, but stick with it :)

Anyone else tempted to post a Free load of original NIBs at 11:59 this evening and laugh at everyone sweating over them for the weekend? :P
