After recently finishing my Kyosho Scorpion build, I was all motivated to crack into another kit, so busted out Willy's Kombi, which I bought last year whilst on Holiday in Canada.

lot of masking etc .  .  Looking forward to seeing this build .

Yep, paint is definitely the challenge with this one. First thing with a WR02 is to disassemble the gearbox and replace the bushes with bearings

Bought these CVA's when I was in Japan over 2 years ago with my WW2, but ended up using some blue YR shocks on that build, so kept these for this one

A pretty simple straight forward kit these, I ended up using an Associated XP brushed speedie that I had here out of an RTR SC10 I had a while ago, due to the included 104 not having a bec.

As for wheels and tyres, I opted for these pre mounted beadlock look wheels/tyres that I bought to try on my WW2, and thought they would suit the Kombi well

An opportunity for me to use one of IBIFTKH's awesome painted Willy's that I grabbed off of him a while ago

Hey Kym, nice to see a build thread for one of these, looks like Willy's going to have a cool ride. Paint and decals are a lot of work but worth the effort. My daughter loves hers!

Don't suppose you've got a link for those wheels & tyres?

cheers,

Rob

Yep what David posted, the front axles need spacers, I used an 1150 brass bushing as well as an 850 brass bushing, 3 850 brass bushings achieve the same result. Duratrax also have the same or very similar options I believe.

**edit - here's a link to the Duratrax range

So, Basher body is umm well, complete. I had some Park Green PS21 in my paint supply that I'd had for probably over 6 years, and instead of testing it, I just started spraying the body.....well, it seemed to have gone off, and reacted on the body by bubbling up in areas. I rubbed back the affected areas as best I could (be bothered to do actually) and thought it would be OK, but the new PS21 came out quite significantly lighter than the old, and so, now I have a patchy green finish. So it was experimentation time to try some other things I've got, being pearl clear for the White, and Flat Clear for the outside. I painted the green flat, and the "rag top"

Lots of decalling OMG, and lots of curves, anyone try a hairdryer on them to remove the "spears" do you just heat them up, or need to rub them too?

Have bought the new body, but haven't had a chance to do anything yet, but I did take the car for a run today at my LHS (we have an indoor M05 track at the store) and even on the painted concrete surface the WR02 chassis was fantastic fun, so much so that it looks like we might add a WR02 class with some small removable jumps. What a fantastic kit Tamiya have produced in the WR02, if people don't enjoy driving these things, they possibly are not human :P
