Wow I can post pic's up again.

Well I recently finished my Egress Re re build to run at Boondall.

The build went smoothly but was not happy with the ride height of this at all. The front sat too low and the back to high even with the pre load adjusted to the max at each end. So after a few simple mods and a new front shock tower I hit the Boondal track.

I used modern rubber  and electrics. This was dialled. Every bit as good as my well sorted Avante or even better thanks to the longer wheel base.

Just loved how much rear end grip the trailing rear arms give and stacks of steering too match.

I couldn't get to the like button quick enough.  Did you use the Avante Hop-Up front shock tower ?  (The one that came with re-re front Hi-Caps)

Thanks Guys.

Enrich I saw a Egress on flea bay in white while building this and loved how all the decals matched a white background. So I thought white will be the body colour of choice.

Kim the wheels and tyres are off my Avante but the white blends in well and doesn't look out of place as you said. Once built I bolted up the original black wheels then tried the pink version  but opted for white light weight ones till I bolted up modern 2,2's.

Thommo  I was horrified how the front end was so far out from bottoming out with the original shock tower. I tried a Pargu shock tower from a Avante 2001 which was a little better then read somewhere here that original option Hi Caps front tower for the re re Avante was the best solution and lucky I had one from a set I used on my TRF Frog so it was bolted it up with good success . Still not perfect but almost right.

I ended up cutting 2 coils of the rear springs to get the correct ride height .

Mat for electrics I'm running  a Bluebird digital servo with a 3 Racing Heavy Duty servo saver as the stock Tamiya one is week for a 4wd.

A  60A esc with a 9T motor.  My Avante is running the same gear but e with a 10T . Motor was matched too the limited gearing choice with a brushless . Funny as my Avante is well matched to the 10T but the Egress just needed that little more for some reason.

That's interesting. Even if one's not buying, checking eBay usually sparks some interesting ideas to work your cars, what a great website. Not a very nice place to sell stuff, but definitely an interesting site to check other peoples' cars (and find some bargain every now and then) ;)

I have an Egress runner which started out as a Vajra. Only real difference between mine and a genuine Egress is that mine has Kyosho velvet shocks fitted.  It's got 40wt front and 35wt rear with yellow springs front and rear.

On grass, I run it on Shumacher mini spike yellows and it's fairly horrible to drive. Swaps end with even the slightest steering input - even with 40wt in the front it seems too springy. Steering itself is quite sloppy and have tried everything to tighten it up - lunsford ball studs and cups etc.  Bump steer was very pronounced and switching to a 2001/Vanquish steering plate has helped but not cured it.

Overall bit disappointed with it. Handles really badly.

My Egress would have been  same out of the box.

The stock set up was way off. The rear sat too high and the front too low even with the spring pre load adj to the max at each end. Would of had the same issues at yours.

Rule of thumb with 4wd is adjust the spring pre load at the rear to be arms level or a little lower and the front to be slightly above arms level . Then adjust to suit the tyre grip. Front higher for less steering and rear lower for rear grip . Reverse it for the opposite effect .

As I said I had to cut 2 coils of the rear springs to the correct ride height at the rear . The front tower had to swapped out too for the same reason. Once all adjusted in ride height they are pretty nice in the handling department.

I think they used the 2011 Avante, I have just searched ebay worldwide, Jasons store, Tamico, Stella and banzai, no one has one, I am thinking of drilling holes in my egress tower to lower the mounting point,

Approx 1cm to 1.25cm lower,   would this be about right Mad Racer and Thommo ?

Bevo, I have a spare Avante Hop-Up shock tower.  It's in a funny place but I can get it for you.

My set up is very similar to Mike MAD RACER but I use vintage Hop-Up soft springs from the original Hop-Up spring set.

Thanks Thommo,

I'll take the tower, I have just torn my man cave apart, I have found the original hop up spring packet, but with only the stiff springs , I know I have the soft springs here somewhere lol

Found it !

I don't have a 2013 Egress front shock tower to compare it with though.  Maybe PM Mad Racer Mike, he might be able to confirm if there's much of a difference.  Mind you, it was pretty noticeable that he'd used the Avante Hop-Up front tower.
