Hello all. I've just joined the forum after reading it for several years and thought I'd tell a bit about myself. I've had a quite a few RCs over the years, mainly Tamiya, starting with an original Rough Rider hand me down from my Dad.

The first car that was mine from new was a Grasshopper 2 (super g?), followed by a Blitzer Beetle, Escort Cosworth, McLaren MP4/6 F1 car and Madcap. None of which I have anymore, but really wish I'd kept them - especially the Madcap, that car was so much fun: I was running a 10 double in it and I still have know idea how the gearbox survived!

I currently have a Scania R620, a re-release Frog and a Midnight Pumpkin (bought for my son) that are up and running. I also have a couple of projects: my old Manta Ray that is currently sitting in 2 carrier bags that I have been meaning to clean up and see if its worth putting back on the road and an onroad chassis that could do with a strip and rebuild. I'm not sure exactly which chassis it is but it is a front engine belt driven 4WD from years ago.

I'm considering my next car: can't decide between a Hotshot, Wild One or Optima (well out of my comfort zone), and my wife has taken a liking to the Monster Beetle rerelease, I'll get her hooked yet :D

Well, I'm sure you're all bored of reading this by now so I'll leave it there, I'm sure I'll get some great advice if I ever need it.

Hi Rob

Welcome to TC and the forum:). Be sure you're in good hands here and you'll get all the informations you need. On the other side, do not blame anybody here when you are getting more and more addicted. Joining Tamiyaclub means high risk in spending more money as ever intended in this beautiful hobby:D.

Have fun and keep us updated in your future projects and builds

Cheers
Mike

Mwuahahahaha, fresh meat.

All joking aside, welcome brother.  While we may all be leagues apart we are bound together by the Tamiya in our blood.

Welcome to the club, the Manta ray is a great buggy and well worth restoring, I used to have one and wish I'd never sold it. The front motor belt driven, if it's a Tamiya is probably a TA03F, another great chassis!

enjoy,

Nito

Thanks everyone, seems a great place here. I am trying to work up the courage to post some pictures but my modelling skills are rubbish. Having said that, I don't have any shelf queens so any marks and scratches could be classed as giving them 'character'

Hi RobS1976. Welcome from another newbie. You should post your pictures anyway. I don't think you'll find another modeller anywhere ever, who is honestly completely happy with their modelling skills.

It does of course improve with practise and time, but there's no such thing as perfect unless it's painted by a machine.

My personal stumbling block is weathering. To such an extent that I will no longer attempt it on anything expensive. As such my

XR311 is sadly rather dull.

Ok, I'll be brave. Here's some pictures of the cars which are currently up and running. Sorry the photo's are naff quality but I'll get round to some better shots one day. Couple of things to sort on the Scania, need to tint the windows to hide the nest of wires for the MFU and last time out I broke off the top lightbar. Frog and Pumpkin are standard runners.

Hello and welcome to the club. Great looking frog you have👍

They look great. I don't know what you were worried about. Your Frog looks better than mine. I had a bad day with the masking and got a few leaks that

needed inventive use of the extra decals to conceal. The vintage decals look great on it. Love that huge NGK one!

That Scania looks complex. A very impressive looking beast. I still haven't seen a Tamiya truck in the flesh yet. Perhaps that's for the best as far as my rapidly diminishing bank account is concerned,

Thanks! I was so glad when they re released the Frog, had wanted one for years. I agree: they look so much better with the vintage decals.

The Scania is pretty complex but was a dream to build, I imagine that's got a lot to do with Tamiya's excellent quality and attention to detail.

I'd love to build a Bruiser but funds won't allow at the moment. Can't decide between a Wild One or Hotshot next - unless there's a nice suprise at Shizuoka 2016 (come on Bigwig :D)

Hi welcome to the club!:D I like the pumpkin they always look as though they can take a good hammering! Over the years I've probably built a stack of tamiya's! hotshot and wild one amongst them and are brilliant RC cars but my first kyosho was a few weeks ago with the optima re-re and I can honestly say it goes to the top of the pile for a fantastic build and super smooth running (went for the belt drive!) But which ever one you choose you won't be disappointed they are all good in there own ways! :)

I built that for my son, it's holding up to an enthusiastic 8 year old very well
