I have just done a rebuild on my newly aquried kc and can attest to the thing falling to bits every run lol

I snapped a front upright yesterday pulling a hard turn on wet bitumen with bald tires... before that it was all 4 screws on the front upper contril arms coming loose

Ha, I've had mine running for about 6 weeks now and I've finally gotten everything except this damper mount secure with new hex screws and lock nuts. The first month, something would come loose EVERY SINGLE TIME. Steering mount, knuckle screws, damper mounts, sub chassis screws...literally everything came loose and I spent 30 minutes walking around some gravel pit looking for a bushing or screw.  Myself, my brother, mom and dad looked about 30 minutes for that **** differential cup last night. I can't believe we couldn't find it.

Well, without much luck finding a left gear box joint so I decided to bite the bullet on a full SC10 transmission/differential with slipper clutch and pinion for 44.00 + free shipping along with a 12x12 piece of 3mm G10. Not much more than the universal swing shafts that had the gear box joint in it anyway and now I can stop worrying about frying my transmission.

Hopefully I don't mess up the installation so badly that I'm worse off than I started.

To the OP:

You MUST insert more shims when re-assembling the differential to tighten it up.

It also helps to place the shims with the outside of the shim looking to the wheels.

This will make it tighter. I did this once after the diff began to slip and I never had to

re-assemble it. Ran like a demon with a nice DynaRun motor, The KC is fantastic, specially

when you replace the stock tyres.

This is totally useless because more shims you add more the differential housings will deform when you close and tight them.

The only solution is to cnc build new hard alloy differential housings to replace the original soft metal ones.

Would really love to see how that SC10 gearbox bolts into this classic

@Berman, you got a list of what is missing?? I have a box of bits here, fraid it ain't what it used to be, but if you need some KC parts, Y'all let me know, it is becoming time to clear all surplus things out of my very messy garage while I can find my way around inside it.

Do either of these just "drop right in" or is there much modification involved?? I haven't had my KC off the shelf in some time to give it a look into what would be involved with changing out the transmission, but then again, since it isn't run all that much, I don't have transmission problems.

I had a quick squizz trying to half heartedly assemble it last weekend and ran out of time, I should make a list, so far I can't find the steering plate and I am missing a rear arm block that bolts to the sub chassis, but I will get back to it one day and let you know, thank you Chris! :)

If you want to get rid of your wheels please let me know. :D:rolleyes:

As I said per another thread, I have a few sets of new (and used), let me know.

Mine didn't drop in. I'm going to make a post detailing my efforts once I get the drive shafts sorted out.

I made a whole new sub chassis plate. It wasn't quite as hard as I thought it might be, but on the other hand it's not perfect. It's about 1mm off center. Pretty close for a ruler, protractor, hand file, and jigsaw with a tile blade on it.

Sounds like a great post is coming. Would a sub chassis already cut for the KC be able to be modified or is the hole cut in it already too much material gone?? I have a spare sub chassis plate here that could be butchred in the name of science.

I would guess the hole in the stock plate is too big relative to where you need to mount the SC10. I've seen those Traxxas conversions where they mount it just to the side of the stock plate tranny slot but that won't work here. I played it safe and got the 12x12 G10 plate. Made a new electronics/battery mount with it also so in the end it was worth it.

Dog bones that fit finally arrived yesterday! I got everything put back together and took it for a spin. Oh man, so much quieter and smooth. I can finally run through grass without constant slipping, and punch the throttle with torque set high on my esc. I'll have to take some pics of the final project and make a tranny swap thread.
