Here's my original Manta Ray. It's been like this for a couple of years now.

I'm hoping to find some time over the next few weeks to get it cleaned and sorted, see what bits I need, etc.

Has anyone got any tips for cleaning all the old muck and grease off? Maybe a good cleaning product or degreaser to use? It's going to be used for fun and bashing, so I'm not aiming to get it perfect: It's only going to get dirty again

simple green works best on plastics and wont damage it , for the gear I use automotive degreaser and a toothbrush for best results and rinse with water.

if the wife isn't looking the plastics can go for a run in the dishwasher , saves the scrubbing lol

Thanks, I'll give that a try. My first attempt with cheap washing up liquid didn't go so well.

Wife's away this afternoon, not back till tomorrow night, I might get away with using the dishwasher haha.

Fairy liquid and an old toothbrush, for really greasy areas then I've found carburetter cleaner very good (and engine degreaser).

My first purchase 6 years ago was a used Manta Ray, that got me into so much trouble lol!   85% of a Manta Ray chassis landed with me this morning, so looks like i'll be rebuilding in parallel with you ;)

I've been looking at some of your builds/restorations, looking forward to seeing your progress. I'll have to get pictures and update everyone with how mine goes

Please do - there is also 'the builds' section if you want to document the resto/rebuild , and good luck - it'll be nice to restore something you've owned for a long time

I'm hoping for a parts bin rebuild, ie  ''do I have enough parts lying around that I don't need to buy anything ?'' ;  although its so tempting to add to cart all new shiny plastics lol !

      Hi Jon,
In the linked image, I've simply moved the bar forward until it is centered directly over the rear shock tower (approx. 10.72mm) and kept the same height.  Is this what you had in mind?

Are still manufacturing the gear box clamp for Monster Beetle?
