Ahh yes the handle grip selector... I can picture it now!

What about Spokey Dokeys... Those beads you out on your spokes that moved up n down if u ride slow enough like a kerplunky sound going on... And cloth/Plastic number cards across the handle bars on BMx's too.

The Grifter had three gears selected by twisting the right hand grip. Hateful thing, weighed a tonne and had none of the cool factor of a BMX. Put me off bikes for life..

Omg the Grifter. A mate had one of those and I remember it weighing a ton too . Plus the gearing on the thing. I remember having to put so much effort in just to get it moving. Not like a bmx which hit top speed in seconds.

I remember the spokey dokeys but I couldn't put them on the burner or mongoose. I did have a numbered plastic sheild on the bars though which I thought was pretty cool. Oh yes the dice caps too. B)

Think you're right nito the chopper had a gear lever on the frame which was between your legs  How did that get past health and safety .

The old nut slicer. I had a raleigh striker before the Ultra Burner, awesome little fat wheeled thing with fake front suspension gaitors!

I think I had a Bomber, not a bad bike but had very little cool factor back then iirc. I also had a BMX with plastic wheels and foam tires - no idea who made it though.

I do remember eating Ready Brek in copious amounts daily, purely because of this:

I never did get a Mongoose BMX :lol:

Just checked out that raleigh bomber. Looks like a very early mountain bike. And I didn't know ready brek did a promotion to win a mongoose bmx. Not surprised you ate lots of it as a kid. If that competition was on now the whole house would be on a ready brek diet.

Still got the BMX I built when I was about 15 - TRM Freestyle frame with Acorn mags. It needs tidying up but it's pretty good for 30+ years old!

I will do a BMX restore thread in the off topic section when we get to it.

You lot can reminisce all you want then, I cannot as I did not have a BMX and I am 39 now and 16 stone so I will be not doing any backflips soon

Love it, I know it reminded me of something.

I have the sticker sheets to do the windows so just need to get on it.

Got a run on Sunday. Not had much play time this summer so it was great

I ran a Wild Dagger and Noah had his WT-01 Blackfoot

Wilddagger was have issues binding so did not get out the car park. Blackfoot had some fun before breaking a rear upright

Gave Noah some fixing practice though so that was good

It's great to see the Blackfoot back in action, we had many hours having a lot of fun with that truck.

Yes it has a new life and a few new parts :-)

Think it will be a family staple for a long time

My (second) Bomber. Plenty cool in my book😉

I too had a Raleigh Bomber in my youth, although mine was different to the one pictured, being blue with a 6-speed derailleur at the back and two chainrings up front. It wasn't considered cool, but it was a lot faster than a BMX, and a lot more practical than a road bike, so I liked it. I used it for commuting to school and back during the week, and for trail riding over the weekend. Trail riding took its toll on the front forks, which eventually gave way where they attach to the headset tube. I replaced them with a CroMoly set, which lasted right up until I outgrew the bike halfway through high school.

So I have no idea how this happened

50EE17CF-3FB4-4E9C-B2EF-511971B6C2EA_zps

Time to refresh a family favourite. Both my kids learned on this and it has been lent out to anyone and everyone 4A473F88-A0EC-44A7-AB4E-07E39371748E_zps

It has a couple splits so time for a rebuild

Diff and axle first. This was one of the first cars I built so I wanted to see what it was like.

All looks good. The diff putty is still in place and working well so I will not split that. Bearings good so they can be reused so it is just new cases

Before I start the rest of the rebuild I need to open these up a bit to take my LiPo packs

Had to fit the body for a look though. It is an odd looking thing but I quite like it

What bodyshell is that and would it fit a DT-02 buggy? Are you going to put a driver figure inside?

Fighter Buggy RX. I doubt it will fit DT-02 but I can try later in the week if you want.

might put a driver in but only if Willy will fit

My mistake, I was thinking of the Super Fighter body (for the DT-02 in any case)  with a separate wing, cheers though.

Bit of time to build this back up again today.

I seem to be missing a long screw so no motor but I cannot decide what to put in it anyway.

Gave the battery area a clean up so LiPo will fit. Not good looking but a must for me.

Just need to prep for paint now. Needs some red in to set off the wheels but I have no decals so it will be all paint.

Not sure what I will do with it then, I do not need another runner and the kids both have cars so I am running out of storage and excuses.
