I should have picked out the black on the shell but it is a basher in the purest sense so it was not worth it.

Need to pick a motor combo for the boy and not sure what to go with yet.

needs to be cheap, fast but slow and preferably water resistant. In stock in my cupboard or in another model would also be great.

I need an audit to see where I am

Chineseium 13.5T motor not working with the Tamiya ESC so had to give the boy a Turnigy 4000kv matched kit I had. Far to much power for him (and the car to be honest) but the controller has limit settings for the throttle so he can grow in to it.

Well no one wanted this one so I thought I would do something different with this one

44159794190_0109f3b323_b.jpg

I was trying to wait until all the bits I have ordered arrived before I stripped it down to spare parts but I could not wait.

These bits I will use on this build

These bits will go on to another car

These bits are spare

I just need wait for the postman now before I can do more

So..

I started to put a shell away while I got on with other projects and this fell out the cupboard. I was just thinking about binning it when I hit upon an idea.

44228293390_d5fa070d68_b.jpg

Imagine if you will, Robbi Red Neck has bent his crawler frame but still has his dads old farm truck and a welder.

A little play with the plasma torch (side cutters) and we have this

44228293210_9f4e6ee2fa_b.jpg

To busy on the roof and how would I account for all the damage up there?

So keep cutting until we end up with the last pic.

Not even close to finished but not a bad concept.

The shell looks in a lot better nick with the stickers off and a lot of the damage is in the “correct” places

Bit of a catch up. Not much done but a little over a few nights.

Most of the parts I have ordered have arrived so I thought I would make a start putting them together. I have never had or built a SCX10 or clone so a lot is guess work. Most stuff listed on eBay could be for SCX, SCX ii or AX10 from what I can tell. These terms seem to be interchangeable to sellers.

45418182604_1896afbfe8_b.jpg

First mistake is I don’t need the thin bit with a lump on it. The front servo bracket does both jobs.

45418182334_b7e3346f45_b.jpg31202730407_df93f483f2_b.jpg

Shock towers are red because they were cheaper.

32270922348_a3df8f1cf0_b.jpg

Found 2 bags of screws if I need more (I did not so if anyone needs black or stainless set screws for a WR-02 or WR-02C build let me know)

31202730527_0123c41860_b.jpg

46141816931_a6afb1971c_b.jpg

Shock towers do not fit over rails so will need “clearancing” when I put them on. Rears have not turned up yet.

45230395665_192ec5c07e_b.jpg

The Scout gearbox has different hole spacing than the supplied plate so that will need some playing as well.

44325230470_c9fe4d9cd4_b.jpg

Mocked up and the arms from the Scout will not work so I will make some custom ones.

Anyone got a line on the alloy tube so I can cut it to length myself?

End of catch up...

Today starts with a rethink.

45230396835_c8d5d2802e_b.jpg

Rear wheels are on the axle so I think width will work.

Wheel base is a little under 10” and these rails only go down to 11.4” so I don’t think this will be possible without some major rethinking.

On the plus side I have stripped the shell and got all the sticky stuff off and it does not look to bad. Lots of damage but also a lot better under the stickers than I feared. Those decals hid a beautiful body, Tamiya should be ashamed to have included them.

So plan B (or is it E or F?)

I have a MF-01x in the shed and a CC-01 in the loft. Might be time to dig them out and see what fits.

Started cutting out my Unimog but put the scalpel through my thumb so will give that one a miss this week while scissors arrive

I put a new surgical blade into my scalpel to cut out a Wild One shell but the first thing I cut was my thumb . It was so sharp that I didn't even feel it until I noticed the claret everywhere  , so I can sympathize :(

I still have not gone back to that shell and I am not sure I love it as much as I did.

It might be the next one gone in the big sell off after the City Turbo and Lunchbox shells are gone.

Wild Dagger sold on EBay in 3 minutes. Lunchbox shell and City Turbo Shell sold  in about 5. I must be selling myself short on prices.

So Wheeler shell of the MF-01x. Going to have to change the wheelbase

45421670814_eaf3f47559_b.jpg

Width looks ok though

44328764090_fe7a7010bd_b.jpg

All the spacers added and I think we have a winner

45233784535_c09ab7debf_b.jpg

Already running TL-01 arms so width is good. Need longer drive cups on the rear, almost out of thread.

45233784735_f89f4ba9c1_b.jpg

Mounting is always the hard bit for me on custom stuff and where I loose patience and give up.

45233783775_9088e0f5d0_b.jpg

Rear posts are almost where I need them but not quite. I need a great hidden mounting system before I carry on with the body.

Are the tyres a little overkill? Should I go down a size?

So playing again today. I have a “spare” Scorcher shell I think looks good on this chassis and then the Blackfoot can go on the CC-01. Or maybe the other way around?

Posted

No way this is ever fitting on here

45613632044_d39d391a90_b.jpg

So I guess this is a done deal then

32464933908_68d77c4342_b.jpg

Going to fit the shell so the edge of the arch is the same height as the arch liners on the CC-01 chassis.

Lots of places for body posts on a CC-01

32465744518_392d3ba057_b.jpg

Plan A not going to work

46287264992_a6d53dd555_b.jpg

The magnetic mount is to long to meet any holes. Need to order plan B

46287265002_a444374af8_b.jpg

Looking good with relocated rear shocks and a little extra wheelbase.

Rear will mount almost to the chassis

46337837301_5121f5b64d_b.jpg

Front bumper is going to have to go though

32465744508_cd025816d8_b.jpg

This can all be put away until better weather now because moving on from here I need outdoors to sand and paint and do final fitting.

So on to the MF-01x Sand Scorcher

Got the shell where I want it

46287264972_3947ceb5ca_b.jpg

Was about to call it a day when I tried it with full lock. No go it hits the nose :(

So need smaller wheels or tyres of both.

Tried the ones from the other project.

46287264952_35167b5f68_b.jpg

Maybe the other wheels with these tyres?

or

46337838001_b6104c7c4a_b.jpg

Like a real Scorcher larger tyres in the rear on matching wheels?

Opinions and comments welcome

Boxing Day and a little hobby time. I was supposed to be on a vintage motorcycle run this morning but thick fog put me off.

I got myself a TRX-4 Sport and a TRX-4 builders kit for Christmas and I am still building a bitsa SCX10. I am lucky to have a good job and an understanding family.

So ignoring all the Christmas stuff I need to lose a DT-03. Forum opinion was to keep the hop-up chassis with the Stadium Blitzer body.

46470251491_4d70c4c11d_b.jpg

So after much stripping and swapping we have a DT-03 Frogalike for sale. I will post it on here as a roller for a week before I make it RTR and go to EBay.

The sharp eyed might notice the Carson wheels fitted now

45746775594_3c9ce33bb3_b.jpg

All before 12 so I might get some TRX time after all

Looks brilliant! Very nice work.

I ran an older pair of stock blitzer tires because on grass they work better than pretty much everything else I have and (more importantly?)  they look cool!  However they do wear quite easily.

I'm now on some Schumacher tires and inserts and I think it keeps the look fairly spot on .Much softer and more flexible too, fairly cheap and readily available.

Still yesterday, I ran out of time to put pictures up

Horror, it is not a Tamiya

44670952070_1ec456ed98_b.jpg

Even worse it is RTR

44670952330_d70355d74c_b.jpg

It is very well build though and of great quality. The shell has been covered is cricket tape and I needed to add some under body guards to help it survive my driving

Cheap Chinese EBay jobs and I am sure an expert will tell my why they are wrong but they kept the front diff free from its first scratch first time out

I love my TRX4. I have the Bronco. Enjoy it! PS, I run mine with a small 3s pack mounted up front. Also, from my experience, those under guard pieces may look nice but they will just get you hung up on the rocks. All these axles can take a huge amount of scrubbing without being damaged.

Got the builders kit to do for the full TRX4 effect but looking at forums most people seem to take the full fat ones and turn them in to Sports anyway.

Being old school, I love the shift on the fly gears and diff selectors. That's the main appeal to this truck for me. I never got the guys that did that. It's like getting a Bruiser and putting a single speed transmission into it lol. That what's great about this hobby though. We can all customize our toys to how we want them and no one's preference is better than anyone else's. ;)

I am going to run the Sport and full fat next to each other and see what difference it makes. My son can borrow one when we go out, we just need to find a good place to run them now

The wife took the kids out to visit some relative or another so I got a little time to sit on the sofa with Netflix and do some Meccano assembly in the form of my Chineseium SCX10, Scout blend.

32629191038_4b7d37ac9d_b.jpg

A random mix of Chinese blind buys and no idea of how a SCX10 is normally put together.

Shocks might be a little long but they were cheap

32629191008_6de3822485_b.jpg

Instructions are not that clear

The problem with buying random parts from the lowest price seller on eBay is that they do not always fit well.

The front shock towers took a bit of fettling to get them to fit but they went on in the end.

46523484772_b763fe6ac1_b.jpg31634614747_5eda630700_b.jpg

If you have ever looked on eBay at the £6 body shells a thought if they are any good I can answer.

32701916528_33140a768c_b.jpg

NO

The bottom of the mold is very poor at the back and the bumper it not clear.

Worth £6.50 but not much more

It all starts on Friday. Driving home I pull over to the verge to avoid an on coming ASDA lorry. 2 miles later I get out of my car and hear a hissing coming from the tyre. So that’s me on the bike on Monday as no chance of getting tyre delivered over the weekend.

Sunday I decide to take ‘Rex out for a run. The family are busy so I can explore the woods with no complaints. But I really should take the bike out for a run before doing it in the dark Monday.

That top box looks about car size, I bet it would not fit in there...

IMG_20190106_130103

Guess what, a TRX-4 controller and two batteries fit in a top box. I did not half get some funny looks unloading it and driving off.

Ran a 3s pack this time but noticed not difference to be honest.

Little video of the run. Production value not high but I am proud of the logs at the end.

Got back to the bike to find I had been joined by a real supercar
