So after about 1 battery pack on my castle creations 4600kv motor and 2s lipo.  I tore my ball diff apart. These were the supposed reinforced gears ha.

Now I have everything to rebuild it except tungsten diff balls, I don't know if I should use the ones in the photo. They might be messed up. Everything else in the gearbox appears fine, should there be other concerns? The TRF lightweight shaft looked fine but seemed really stuck in the gear case, I did get it out with a little force. I also had the motor at about 70% which I was told should be fine. Now I don't know what to do.

Does the DN-01 have a slipper..?

Yes and I thought it was properly set up. I went by rc tech forums for setting ball diff and slipper

Considering that diff is what was/is run in the TRF-201 for both stock and mod racing (Lee Martin raced it with a 6.5T motor and others have posted setup sheets with 7.5 and 9.5T motors) I'm sorry but I'mg going to have to say something wasn't set correctly.  A 4600kV motor is pretty powerful, and the Castle is a 4 pole jobber intended for SCT and monster trucks so it'll have more torque but the diff should hold up.

Its pretty clear from your pic that the diff was slipping.. What ball diff grease were you using?

I was using associated ball diff grease

i agree  even though I felt it was smooth, it must not have been. The shop said they recommend this one for all buggies

Did you break in the diff, then re-check the setting??

Yes I broke it in with holding one wheel with some throttle ect ect from  rc tech forums with building and breaking in a diff

Did you re-adjust it afterwards?

If you held the diff and one outdrive in one hand so that they couldn't move relative to each other, and tried to turn the other outdrive with your other hand, would it move? If so, how much effort did it require would you say?

I honestly don't remember when I rebuilt it. How should it be? I am going to rebuild it again later this week

Only time I have ever had a ball diff melt like that is in on one of my DB01's. With the diff too loose, one of the tires lost traction and the difference in speed between both sides caused the problem. This was with an EzRun 9T 4300kV setup.

I'm guessing that the thing was either too loose or you were using too much throttle for the motor/gear setup you have. 70% throttle will have very different results on something like a 3300kV 17.5T vs a 4300kV 9T motor. [EDIT: Just re-read this and realized it could not have been too loose since you were running a static type test.]

Personally I just put the things together and run a few easy laps to break things in, but then again I'm just bashing these days.

So I rebuilt it today. I went by the exact same way again but noticed after breaking it in it definitely loosened up so I gave it a 1/4 turn tighter. It appears it's good now but I thought that last time. I also geared down to 21t pinion and 79t spur. Hopefully this helps now.  I do think it was a combination of to loose and throttle cause before it blew, I was doing speed runs at the playground by my house.
