mrlab 0 Posted June 4, 2016 About to embark upon Hilux restoration and wondered if anyone that has done this before can provide details of recommended sources for parts. Here is the current list I have, and some sources I've been able to track down: Front free-wheeling/lockable wheel hubs Universal joints Stainless steel hardware Gearbox mount grommets Front/rear bumpers - http://www.radshaperc.com/product/tamiya-hi-lux--bull-bar-with-loop Ball races 4 x 22mm o x 8mm i x 7mm w (2RS bearings) 13 x 11mm o x 5mm i x 3.9mm w 11 x 10F-8mm o x 5mm i x 4mm w (MF85ZZ) Shims 6.5-6mm o x 5mm i x 0.5mm w 32P 10T Pinion - http://mardave.co.uk/pinions/32dp-pinions/example-product.html Servo control arms - victor101car Given that I no longer have the MSC, plan on using ESC with LIPO's and would welcome any recommendations. From previous posts, I can see the following suggested: TEU- 302 ESC Modelsport RV-12 Sniper Assault Also need motor, so again any recommendations welcome. Thanks in anticipation! Percymon 2184 Posted June 4, 2016 Motor - silver can Tamiya 540J standard motor Pinion - brass pinions (and spur gears and brass transmission gears are available via ebay, Chinese seller kurbdan - you won't find him on www.ebay.co.uk, you have to use ebay.com http://www.ebay.com/sch/kurbdan/m.html?item=162034942282&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=2&_trksid=p2046732.m1684 Front bumper - depends how much you have of the original, alloy side plates are available from pargu store on ebay, as are rear bumpers. Original bumper ebay, or Tamiyaclub wanted, used only option - your link to radshape isn't working currently, but be aware there is the original hilux and the high lift modern hilux which use different bars and mount points. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/pmg828/ gearbox mount grommets are available in the rubber parts bags for the re-released Bruiser, parts 51498. The plugs for the transmission case (and mechanism box/servo savers) are in the other rubber parts bag 51499, but Far East ebay sellers have both of them cheap. If you want to go with ball races then www.rcbearings.co.uk universal joints you may be able to get new old stock, victor101, Tonys Tamiya parts, goldstarstockists etc otherwise ebay used items Free wheeling hubs are ebay used only, so be prepared for high prices, shipping from the USA or both ! victor101car has a few new smaller parts available, great service and prices stainless hardware - westfield fasteners (quite high unit price) or https://www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk/ (can be high shipping but if the package is small enough they will send out in normal mail system if you call them)
Percymon 2184 Posted June 4, 2016 other option is jasons store - he often has a few vintage parts too http://jasons-store.highwire.com/products?search=hilux As I've not built my re-release Bruiser or Mountaineer I can't say whether the front hubs are compatible with the vintage models, but might be worth searching around to see
mrlab 0 Posted June 5, 2016 Cheers Percymon for all the leads. Think i'll sort out bearings and mounting hardware out initially as i'm detailing all items needed whilst dissasembling. I can see hubs are going to be the big problem, and suspect re-re hubs would not be an option given the lack of a diff in the vintage. Perhaps the entire axle could be replaced, but again suspect not.
mrlab 0 Posted January 15, 2017 Any recommendations for adhesives to repair/strengthen battery box? Was thinking of using epoxy resin but unsure if there is something more suitable. Cheers
topforcein 1764 Posted January 16, 2017 I used bison rubber repair when I built my bruiser and my grand hauler it's clear
Badboy 94 Posted January 16, 2017 I've been building my Hilux 58028 for about 3-4 years and finally got it running! Still needs original axles so I'm using Rc4wd Brusier edition axles and leafs for flex. Otherwise I'll say E-bay is where you find the parts, you may find parts at recyle RC or something like it... http://www.rc-recycler.com Good luck Badboy
