Whilst looking for alternative wheels for my Lowride Pumpkin, I got distracted and started thinking about a different look for my Lunchbox too.  I know you can't just swap wheels willy and indeed nilly, but the more I look into it the more confused I get.  Has anyone ever found (or created) anything that lists which chassis has which F/R wheel fitment, and therefore which straight swaps are possible and which need adapters (and what those adapters might be) ?

Tamiyabase.com lists wheels for vintage cars. However, I don't know if a comprehensive wheel database for old AND new cars exists.

EDIT: I should have re-read your post before replying, sorry. What I initially wrote below is what you already know.

Regarding the CW-01 Lunchbox (also Midnight Pumpkin, Pajero/Montero, Unimog), keep in mind this has the old disc-shaped style of rear wheel adaptors, and uses 1150 bearing fitment in the front.

The Wild Willy 2 uses hex adaptors for the rear wheels and 1150 bearing fitment front. It also has a slightly different rim design with differing ridges on the inner side. The tires however are the same.

Thanks GregM.  Since I posted I've been looking through the (online) manuals for all the vehicles I own (plus those whose wheels I fancy) and trying to note it all down.

Specific question : the Brat appears to have a disc-type rear wheel adapter too, is it the same as the CW01/Lunchbox one ?

Well, we could make our own database of wheel configurations/adaptors for Tamiya's offroad cars. :) How about that? I'd gladly help!

EDIT: E.g. This is for some of the cars/chassis I own or had my hands on:

Hornet (Grasshopper tub chassis):
Front short stub axle 1150 bearing fitment
Rear disc adaptor

Monster Beetle (ORV Gen. 1)
Front long stub axle 1150 bearing fitment
Rear disc adaptor

Bush Devil (ORV Gen. 2)
Front long stub axle 1150 bearing fitment
Rear hex adaptor

King Blackfoot (ORV Gen. 3)
Front long stub axle 1150 bearing fitment
Rear hex adaptor

Hotshot
Front triangle adaptor
Rear triangle adaptor

Mad Bull (DT-01)
Front long stub axle 1150 bearing fitment
Rear metal hex adaptor (splined)

Pajero/Montero (CW-01)
Front long stub axle 1150 bearing fitment
Rear disc adaptor

Holiday Buggy (DT-02)
Front short stub axle 1150 bearing fitment
Rear hex adaptor

Baja Champ (TL-01B)
Front hex adaptor
Rear hex adaptor

If you want the database to be fully inclusive you'd also want to note where there will be fitment / clearance issues with shock towers, body, chassis parts etc.  Or am I getting way to ahead of myself here?

Who was it who had the modded Lunchbox with Juggernaut wheels..?

Yeah, you're spot on, just having the same hub design doesn't mean that wheels will be easily interchangeable due to clearance issues. Especially the older 3-piece front wheels won't fit on newer 2WD chassis, even though both use 1150 bearings.

Yeah, there's more to it than just the same bearing/hex/disc hub I know, but it's a good start.  I've learned some stuff already, including the fact that my KingCab has a splined hex, not a pinned one.
