Slipper - Clutch Set (Difference)

Recommended Posts

Looking to get a slipper clutch set for my db01.

There are 2 options here and just wanted to know what's the difference (beside the price) and is one better than the other.

First Option => RC DB01 Double Slipper - Clutch Set (#54061)

Second Option => RC Slipper Clutch Set (#54018)

I am using DB01 Aluminum One-Piece 18T Pulley and it says that it should be used with #54018. Wonder if this will work with #54061?

cheers

The main difference between the two options is the double slipper allows the front and rear to slip independently of each other.  This is more useful if you are running gear diffs instead of ball diffs as the gear diffs have zero slip themselves.  When one end of the buggy experiences some drivetrain shock (landing jumps on power, for example), the double slipper isolates the shock to that end of the buggy instead of transferring the shock to the other end as well.  In the past some people have stripped their center plastic pulleys with a single slipper and gear diffs, but using the double slipper cured the problem.

The one-piece aluminum pulley actually doesn't allow the front and rear to slip independently since it is a single piece, so the double slipper doesn't add any value or apply in this case.  Safest setups would include:

- Single slipper + plastic separate pulleys or single aluminum pulley + ball diffs = single slip between spur and center pulleys, no slip between front and rear belts, minor slip in ball diffs

- Double slipper + plastic separate pulleys + gear diffs or ball diffs = independent slip between spur and center pulleys, slip between front and rear belts, no slip in gear diffs, minor slip in ball diffs

The other parts to consider upgrading are the diff joints; TRF501X diff joints are solid metal parts that support the diff rings better than the plastic parts included in the base DB01.
