..........knowing that you bought the wrong car. It wasn't a feeling that I had straight away but moreso a build up over time. So I bought a cc01 off a mate that was sitting unused despite starting a what to buy thread here. I originally sold my scx10 to buy something to share with my son but selfishly I bought somethingfor myself. I've got some parts coming for the cc01 which will allow me to sell it and get my money back.

Has anyone else had this experience with an rc ?

That's the same feeling I had when I got to the end of my re-released mb build, was working toward a high lift hilux but grabbed the mb, how I'm into it to the tune of 350ish nzd and it looks like I won't get that back from it, so even longer delay on my high lift build

Not yet, no. Every car is good for something. Some cars take longer to reveal their charms than others, but I have yet to regret a purchase.

Yeah I must admit I've bought AND sold something and then got that horrible sinking feeling! The one thing I regret selling was my wonderful avante re-re I did get a good price for it but money is everything and the stupid thing about it is I can't even remember the reason why I sold it I just remember the moment I handed it over to the post office thinking "I shouldn't have sold that"!. And I've just bought a hpi savage limited edition used once and in mint condition box and everything as I have got a bit of a collection of them but not this one and seen it on the eBay thought "got to have that" and indeed it is a good addition to my collection but the problem is the said collection is up in the loft (just no room ) so it's possible going to go he same way and what a waste sitting in the loft  so if I had sat and thought about it I probably would have come to the conclusion I've come to now! so like you its probably going to have to be sold!......live and learn as they say (but no doubt I'll stupidly probably do it again and again :rolleyes:!)

I bought a bulk lot of rc's (= x 4) & then had the thought "Why did I do that? ) After I recovered from that initial remorse I realized that I only wanted 2 of them  Luckily I was able to sell the 2 I didn't want and actually cover my original purchase price for all 4 :D

The re-re Frog currently sitting on a shelf in my office.  I wanted one since high school in the 80's.  I could never afford one then.  Last spring I bought one and a Grasshopper for my boy.  While the Frog brought me back into the hobby after a 20 year absence.  After building and running the Frog I find that I don't really like the ORV chassis.  I find it to be tippy (the tall roll-over protection bars should have been a sign) and the rear suspension is fragile.  I have a lot of money tied up in that Frog, and I'll never get it back out again so I have an expensive shelf piece.  I suppose that's ok but I think about all the money I have tied up in what is essentially a decoration and I wish I could funnel that into my TRF 201 racer.

Oh yes, many times...

Most recently I have been questioning my logic in building an MF01 drift car. I already have a couple of 1:10 cars set up for drift, it was very awkward getting to a stage where I'm happy with the chassis (literally it's taken 6 months of waiting for parts and picking it up / putting it down again) I have to question "why?" what was the point?! I've still no real benchmark for how well it performs, it'll no doubt be a compromise because it's short-wheelbase and quite heavy. But meh - I've built it now, might as well get some use from it!

The other time was selling my Keen Hawk since I had a Dark Impact anyway. Then I decided to sell the Dark Impact too, and fund something cheaper - a Super Fighter GR. Upon completion it occurred to me that this was never going to be as capable as a 4wd buggy, which I now crave again. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but it's not as frantic as a 4wd buggy for bashing.

I'll probably never learn!

It happened to me and an original Audi Quattro. The chassis was fun, but upkeep was a nightmare and the car was way too fragile and flawed (although still an exciting drive). It remains one of the only cars I sold, and as parted-out sections.

However, I still love those old rally cars in concept, meaning I am willing to put them on a different chassis...

Not really no... I'm kinda happy I had such a nice taste when I was 15 and bought the Group C Nissan...

But... I can't find a place to play with it...

I don't really mind the constant meddling to fix it, I'm starting to go through whole battery packs without having to go back home or carry a tool case with me, but if I got a buggy, or even a rally car I could have some fun in a park and not lurk in Basketball and Tennis courts under the hot sun...

Also now that I started playing it again, I get to read all the comments about how this car is now shelf Queen material etc. This kinda makes me think of pulling some nitro mors, repaint the body, get some knick knacks from Tamico and just put it aside.

What I am happy though is how good electric cars became.

Back then Nitro cars were da bomb... NiCd batteries where awful, needed ages to recharge etc etc. But now with LiPo it's probably better to just have a couple of packs and enjoy for longer with less complicated repairs.. (repairing a scale thermal engine sounds... well... bad :D )

This is what I started with! A 1300mah NiCd..

Anyway... I love the car... but I guess I won't be driving to any sandy beaches any time soon... unless I make some ... ehmmm... "modifications" :D and change my Nick to "Mad Max". :D

Oh man I need new tires... :D

So I've been working on the truck this past, checking for broken parts and found the dog has managed to sink his teeth into the body. Being a bit different from scx trucks, I found something a bit different. Then when I went to boil the tires off the rims, the tires fell apart. So I have to get some new tires. I think it's telling me something lol.

So it will stay. My son will probably end up with it once I get the basket case m03l sorted.

I bought what I thought was going to be a cheap vintage blitzed beetle three or four weeks ago. After 4 layers of pain removal with the wrong kind of stripping solution I have ordered new wheels, new body and glass and the new nose cone. I may end up with the blitzed decals but not sure yet. Not so cheap now, still less than a new one. But not by much.

Yep, sometimes the bug hits... but generally you can move them on if you want and not take that much of a hit. My experience was buying a Hi-Lux 3 speed, and Tundra when I really wanted a Bruiser. I bought the Bruiser as well, so three trucks. I built the Tundra, never ran it and sold it. Never opened the Hilux and sold it. Built the Bruiser and will never sell it, it's art. Lost some money sure, but lessons learned on waiting a bit longer before pressing the buy now button and not being fearful of scarcity of these models. Have had so many cars over the lifetime and don't miss any except my Kyosho Optima Mid SE that I have no idea where it went to... Apart from that I am thinking of buying a couple now, but am waiting for the right amount of time and desire to be confident of the purchases. We generally aren't talking sheep stations here, but it is definitely advanced consumerism and addictive spending that needs to be monitored!

I just picked up an original unmolested Audi Quattro.

The original (narrow) front bumper snapped off during shipping.  I think I cried a little bit as I already had an original Audi Quattro but with the incorrect wider bumper.  All I wanted was that **** BUMPER!!   I'm still upset

Yeh, a few times, I think.  Mostly buying something "custom made" off here or ebay- "almost finished project" or "a total one-off."  Usually they turn out to be half-baked bitsas with a load of badly-worn parts and the only good, valuable parts are hacked up to make whatever "custom" it is.  Often the customisation is too close to prototype (or wasn't fully thought out) and needs to be started again from scratch.  Even the very well-made customs don't always excite me - knowing that somebody else made them means they never really feel like part of my fleet.  I once bought an exceptionally good Chevy Blazer scaler on a WR-01 chassis, paid good dollar for it, but never felt like I owned it, and it put my lame scalers to shame in the looks department.  Sold it a little while later.

My first Tamiya RC was a very, very used King Cab.  My cousin had pretty much destroyed it before selling it to me for a pittance.  I got fed up with forever waiting on 6-week parts delivery times from Japan, and swapped it with a school mate for a CB radio.  Then I missed not having an RC car, so I begged my parents to buy me a new one for my birthday.  They got me a Mud Blaster.  I thought that, being new, it would be better than the "old" King Cab - at that time I had no understanding that the Mud Blaster was an entry-level kit and the King Cab was a fully-fledged race car.  I suppose the low price tag should have been a giveaway.

When I was about 16, my (by then very used) Mud Blaster was on its last legs and I'd just broken the chassis on a second-hand Grasshopper that I'd been given by an older friend, so I took all my pocket money and bought a Kyosho Sand Master II nitro buggy.  I thought nitro would be "better", but once again, I ended up with the cheapest entry-level kit going.  To me, it felt really cheap.  The chassis had some design flaws and once again, it was back to regular breakages and long lead times for parts, plus it made too much noise to actually be used anywhere.

But the biggest regret very nearly put me off Tamiya and RC for good: I was around 25 years old, was walking thru town, and I spotted Lunch Box and Midnight Pumpkin re-res in the window of the hobby shop where I'd bought my Kyosho 9 years earlier.  I'd lusted after both the LB and the MP all through my childhood, thinking (wrongly) that they were the pinnacle of RC truck technology.  I had a long chat with the store owner, and I chose the newly-released Dark Impact.  I loved every moment of the build, I loved the first run, and it became my favourite basher for years.  I loved it so much I went back a month later and bought the Midnight Pumpkin.  And...  er...  didn't get it at all.  I sold it not long after to a workmate for his son to play with, since I had no interest in its bouncy, wheelie-happy antics.  I'm thankful, only, that I chose the Dark Impact first, otherwise I probably would have been so disheartened with the whole Tamiya scene that I'd never have joined TC, never have got into the scene and never met some of the amazing people I'd met over the years :)
