i_am_scarecrow 912 Posted June 25, 2016 After watching XV Pilot's FF02 buggy build I decided to jump on the bandwagon and make my own. Initially the chosen chassis was to be an FF02 and was destined to live it's life underneath one of my touring car bodies however finding the correct chassis spacer has proven very difficult. The car started life as a box of M03 spares, I begun the build and popped some TL01 arms on thinking the conversion would be a quick and simple one. Here's where the project stopped- What to do then? Simply copy someone else! As mentioned, XV's project came to mind and so armed with a chassis probably best suited to on road rather than off I set about the transformation. First thing for me to sort was the body, everything else would be based around that so after trying out a few buggy shells I settled on the Madbull. The front shocks fit perfectly in the standard location so it seemed logical to use this one. I'm not sure if this is the actual shell I'll be using, it certainly wont be staying in those colours if I do. My Son decapitated this one a while back so I'm using it for the mock up however I reckon a Wild Willy figure will fit in that hole nicely! I'm seriously thinking about fitting some TL01B arms now, I think it may need to be a little wider. At the rear there is a huge gap between chassis and shell, so far the only part that lets the look down so what to do about that? Make a custom shock tower of course and fit longer rear shocks! I've had this thing for ages just waiting for the day I can use it, with a bit of fettling it will fit nicely. I've ordered a new set of wheels and tyres so the on road ones will be replaced shortly. That's about where I'm at with it, more updates shortly!
Grastens 2795 Posted June 25, 2016 Willy would look great in that cockpit - his cartoonish dimensions somehow suit this project perfectly, or at least from what I see so far! As for that big gap under the tail: have you considered honing your static-model skills to fit a model engine out back? I believe a big V8 (or even a flat-four with all the right plumbing!) would be an excellent addition under the tail Looking forward to future developments! Edit: I see the shock tower plan appears to be in motion, but surely a big pair of exhaust pipes and a dummy engine block could still liven things up, even if the shock tower obscures it from the rear.
berman 5315 Posted June 25, 2016 I may possibly have one of those chassis spacers. I picked it up in another city while on holiday thinking it was for a M03, but not sure, it is the same colour, but not sure on length.
i_am_scarecrow 912 Posted June 26, 2016 That's it! Wont be needing it for this project but I'd like one all the same, Are you selling and if so, how much are you asking?
i_am_scarecrow 912 Posted July 3, 2016 Update time! The rear shock tower is on the car, I used some brass reinforced fibreglass shaped to fit then bolted to the chassis using existing holes and then attached the shock tower to that. It needs to be painted but I really wanted to see how it looked- Next up then were some suitable shocks. I've used these Absima ones on a few of my cars now so after finding ones that were long enough on they went. I used 85mm on the rear and 55mm on the front. Currently it has a standard M03 front bumper however I'm going to fit a slightly modified TL-01B here, I just need to trim it down a little as the wheels catch on the edges. The rear one looks the part- Gap nicely filled then I'm not using that shell either but my white one is currently missing in action!
DeBruce 27 Posted July 9, 2016 Out of curiosity, do the longer shocks give you greater arm articulation or is the max / min articulation limited by the arm plastics themselves?
TurnipJF 9113 Posted July 26, 2016 This looks like an interesting idea. Any further updates?
