The Subaru Brat shell is a PITA to get done. I tried to do two of them a few years back and the advice I was given was to do the main colour first then do the details. The only other advice I was given that I can't stress enough to you is to have patience. I can't remember who's shell I saw but they did a near perfect job on it and, when I asked how he did such a great job, I was told that he paints shells semi-professionally and it took him weeks to do.

For the paint... Tamiya TS rattle cans are good for the body paint. X/XF Paint pots for the details. I messed up my shells a handful of times during the painting process. That meant stripping the paint in order to start again. The first few times I used TS rattle cans, then I used XF pots via my airbrush. The last paint job, which is currently on my runner shell, was mostly paint pots via my airbrush before being repainted with a Camel Yellow rattle can. It's far from perfect, in fact I still haven't finished doing the details, but it's at a point where it looks ok. My shelfer shell is a different story. It was going so well, Mica Red backed with Gold, until I got a bit impatient and ruined it. I stripped it and it has spent the passing years in a box waiting for me to try painting it again. Try to be patient and hopefully yours will have a better fate.

Great body, I have 3 to paint :D Yes the best advise is patience, I rebuilt A Friends Marui and detailed the body. I painted the base colour and then completed the details.

I like to use Liquid Mask before painting details on a body. I will agree that the Brat body is difficult but the reward is great if you take your time.

Do the Base color then cover all of details areas in a couple of coats of liquid mask. Once dry you can cut out the details and start painting. My hands aren't steady enough to paint details without it anymore.

That's a great idea I have done base coat a few day's ago and sure I have some liquid mask .. once done is it a good idea to clear coat over ? As I never clear coat ..

I clear coat over everything. Get it all assembled, decaled and spray on the clear. I typically do 5 or 6 good coats as I like to wet sand and polish the bodies.

I depends which ones you got, If they are the UK ones I would say no :o but if they are the Canadian ones I would say yes :D. I just got several sets of decals from Canada including some Mud blaster ones for my build and the quality is brilliant :)

The UK version is printed on a thick white vinyl like a bumper sticker & isn't very flexible :o The Canadian version is printed on much thinner clear vinyl and so is more much more flexible and a far better image quality B)
