DB01 Carbon Reinforced Chassis Help

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am having problems with this chassis. I have a Durga and was planning to replace the stock chassis with this new carbon chassis.

But here's my problem => I have stripped 10 screws when putting the front and rear differential covers. two of the screws broke. I noticed that the screws were very hot while I was tighten by hand.

So am I supposed to use a different type of screws?   I have already messed up one carbon chassis and don't want to mess up again with the second carbon chassis.

Please advise.

Thanks

Tamiya sells a M3x0.50mm thread-forming tap that helps with this problem.  Forming the threads reduces the friction with the screw threads.

It also helps to put a little ball diff grease on the screw threads; this also reduces friction and lessens the chance of stripping screws.

The original DB01 Durga suspension blocks were difficult to thread and needed some tapping before installation.  I've also burned a finger on a hot screw while installing it in the carbon-reinforced damper stays.  Tapping and using some grease makes a difference.

Just to add it doesn't need to be a Tamiya tap, it's a standard size so any brand will work. If you get a left hand thread one as well this will make doing turnbuckles a lot easier.

TN is absolutely correct.  Be sure to buy thread-forming taps and not thread-cutting taps, as thread-cutting taps actually remove material and leave the holes a little loose.
