Hello all I have dug out the txt-1 I brought and had box for over 8 year or so for a rebuild . I have question about pinions and motors I will be using a Tamiya teu-103 bk esc for twin motor and that allows me to run Tamiya sport - tuned motors but I am not sure what pinions I need ?

Thank you..

I don't think it will make much of a difference TBH. I had 2 magnetic mayhems in a TXT-1 for a number of years and ran it with aything from  12T to 20T pinions in, on 8.4V with no issues. Big pinions for speed, small ones for hill climbing. I did however run it on a Ripmax unlimited ESC.

Just a heads up I tried running sport tuned motors on a teu-103 bk and the esc couldn't cope.

Thank you I will just keep it with stock silver cans then as I do not want to fry the esc ..

Well it will be on grass runs and the odd beach run so its small turn pinion then maybe 15t.

That will be fine, just don't use Tamiya aluminium pinions ... :)

Really why ? soft ?

I think 15T pinions were stock on the TXT-1. Yes, the aluminum pinions are soft, will wear down and create a nice gear-eating grinding paste composed of aluminum particles and grease. I use steel pinions like those from Robinson Racing in all my runners. It's kinda funny that every new kit order I make also includes polycarb paint, bearings, and a pinion(s).

What about the hobbywing 860? Would that handle two sport tuneds and an extra tooth or two? Anyone physically tried it in a TXT-1?

i ordered one hobbywing quicrun wb 860 dual brushed esc for my txt1 project but haven't received it by now (actually i ordered 2, the other one for my twin detonator). according to the specs the esc can handle a lot of different motor/battery combos. the price is also ok ($29.90 on the bay). unfortunately, i won't be able to test it soon, so no field reports in the near future :(

Have thought about converting mine to esc and running two sport tuneds or just the silvercans with some bigger pinions, hence my asking hoping someone else had tried, but since every other older 4x4x4 monster truck I have runs msc and silver cans and I don't run them too often, I am not in a rush.
