Hi, I have a vintage thundershot and just sourced a rear wing. I like it without but thought I'd try it out and see how it looks. However I don't have any wing mounts. Did any other models have a similar I could source? Could you use say an egress mount? Or any tricks to fashion one up?

Nope that's how they come. You place the wing on top of the body mounts. Body one first of course.

Not really a good look I thought. I used some Losi  XX4 wing mounts and mounted in the shock tower. Then raised the back of the rear body mounts so the body looked more in place with the Optima Mid wing then painted it up to match the body.

When I read this yesterday I thought ohhh bum ! My thunder shot rear wing mount is not an original one but now you posted the last pic it is exactly the rear wing mount on my car and was to my knowledge the original mounting supplied with the wing (I bought mine second hand with the wing and mount on the car.) ???

Brilliant ! So mine is the correct one !

Thanks for the info.

I think Seidel still do the rear wing but I don't think it's the complete kit, maybe hard to find me thinks.

I have a wing and car, no mounts. 😢 I'm thinking of fabricating one, doesn't look too difficult but if anyone knows where to get one give me the heads up!!!

Think I may have solved this...

The re-re kit came with a rear wing and a pack of fixings - the wing fixes to the body with screws, washers & nuts + spacers found on the D parts tree ( D3 )

The vintage kit did not come with a rear wing but this was optionally available as Hop-Up 50339 - this includes the wing mount as per the posted pics.

nice investigation work! I'm assuming then that the consensus is that the vintage wing mount style looks better and is the way to go? I can't even imagine how it would look to screw direct to the body but I can't imagine it would be look any good!! I'll do some googling to see if I can find an example. In the meantime I'll keep an eye out for a wing mount kit. Does anyone think a Egress mount might fit?

Well, I've done my best. I fabricated a wing mount out of an old stabliser bar. It's currently just connected by zip ties until I figure out a better connection. I didn't have a sticker kit so used some left over bits'n'bobs. Looks ok, it's a runner so ain't original. What do you think?

Nice one !!! It looks great, but after checking mine I think the rear of the wing should be lowered down a bit, the wing should be more level with the flow of the body. Would you like me to post some photos of my wing so you can see the angle ?

Posted

Yep, I noticed that. I had it lower first then bent it up a little as I thought it looked better. Bit of a top force look. I figure a couple of good jumps and roles and it will be bent down anyway 😉

I must admit I remove mine when I go out bashing ! As yoy can see it is a really flimsy rear wing and the fixing is not up to much either
