RC cars are something I have never taken an interest in. After completing my first build a few days ago (Lunchbox), I really don't know why I didn't get into this sooner. I'm hooked, and can see it turning into an addiction! Halfway through the build of the Lunchbox, I was already researching what my next build would be.

It started out that my girlfriend wanted an RC car first. We would go on hikes through the woods, and she kept dropping hints like "This would be a neat spot for an RC car". Eventually, I caught on to those hints and encouraged her interest in a new hobby. We were against getting one from a department store in fear that we would just break it and not be able to fix it, or feared that it would have such a short run time that it wouldn't even be worth the trouble.

A bit of looking around, and we discovered Tamiya kits. We both liked the fact that you can build the entire car, and jumped on a Lunchbox kit. After a ton of reading here, we built the Lunchbox with oil shocks and a Sport Tuned motor. We took it out for the first run yesterday, and despite someone deliberately trying to run it over, we loved everything about it. The build, the backyard testing, modifying it, and driving it.

The one thing we quickly hated about it was that two people sharing one RC car isn't much fun. We need more. So, we have a Jimny wheelie on the way to accompany the Lunchbox. She's got plans to build a Blackfoot after we finish the Jimny, and I am collecting parts to build a Neo Scorcher kit that I picked up.

Anyways, just wanted to say hello and thanks for having such a great informative site.

I've been a member to that club since I met her. I'm actually up for VP this time around. She got me into photography 12 years ago by getting me a camera as a gift. I've been collecting glass since.

We love new people who share our love of Tamiya. It makes us all feel normal. Well... kinda normal. Normal-ish as it were. Awww, who am I kidding?

Don't forget to post pics. If you don't post pics, it didn't happen. :)

Thanks for the welcomes! Here's some pics of the Lunchbox. More pics to follow as we progress.

Body is painted, but we haven't put the stickers on yet. Also, red springs are an ebay special. Just trying out something different.

After painting the body, we knew right away that it would get scratched up. We picked up another body from ebay. We call this the trash body. This is the body we run when we know it's going to see some abuse.

Welcome. This is an incredible place to feed your addition and get all the encouragement you need to empty your wallet. My girlfriend  (now wife ) was the one to get me into the hobby and like you I wished I had got into it sooner. Still,  better late than never.

Very cool, and I agree. Better late than never.

You must get (or make) some Oscar the Grouch decals for this body!

Haha! As you can see, it's pretty comfortable being on it's side.
