What's the rarest vintage R/C item you own?

Recommended Posts

A freshly built Nichimo Midships - I got this as mint unbuilt kit and decided it needed to be released from the box.

Well I have a few kits that are the only ones listed on the site, but that doesn't necessarily make them rare.

Tamiya 44026 and 44027 TGX and TG-10 Nitro cars both fitted with the Novarossi CX-12 Nitro Engines. Only ever fitted to these two cars and discontinued within a year.

NIB TGM-01 Mad Bison. Not many Mad Bison about anyway (probably because I have 11!) but to have one new and sealed makes me smile

getuserimage (5).jpg

and finally, 31513 Kyosho Nissan Pathfinder 1/9. Hard to find now especially in anything like this condition.

I sold many of them and sold 3x as many transmission cases for the CVT transmission for the gas powered version as they were bad for cracking where the plunger went down to regulate forward and reverse

,they were a really good price at the time!

I thought this was released in 84 ? I had one with a FP10,must have put 10 gallons through it between myself and nephews, cluth bell let go at the end and could not get a replacement. It was not very fast but the long travel bouncy suspension made it run realistic. never did much maintenence to it beside tightening the chain once in a while and it ran way better than my Assault with a CZ1 that constantly shut of or overheated?

My uncle owned one of these in the early 80s. They're as rare as rocky horse poo. It was the first RC car I ever got to use. I dont know what happened to the car as he moved out of my grandads in 1988, and took the car with him. I never saw it again after that, or came across another one of these models. He died in 2017 from motor neurone disease.

I would love to get my hands on one, or maybe use this as inspiration for a project.

Probably my original Tamiya Audi Quattro Rally body set. I've never seen another one.

Parma 'Cadzilla' shell, found on eBay many moons ago, still haven't done anything with it!

99999: Misc. from lupogtiboy showroom, Parma 'Cadzilla' Shell - Tamiya RC & Radio Control Cars (tamiyaclub.com)

I also have a Chevy Bowtie Clod shell somewhere that's never been fitted or painted.

To be honest, me building something RC is rare these days, so I'm happy I'm building a totally stock (for now) TT-02 in the shed at work on my lunch break

Only rare as I’ve never seen another one. My first RC car.

I guessing it’s 40 + years old, still works despite having been cartwheeled down the stairs. Now enjoying it’s retirement at my parents house. I must have been strongly influenced by the Super Champ back then judging by the Letraset stickers I put on it 🤣

These two guys, the Tamiya 959 and Celica rally cars. I am lucky to have the chassis in fantastic state, and to have replica bodies and new sticker sheets so some work to be done 😄

Mine is still waiting for me to restore it. I have two, one will be a parts car so the other 959 can be restored.

Maybe I'll start next year lol.

I think the 959 is my dream vintage Tamiya, but I do have this:

Not that rare but it's certainly the rarest Tamiya item I own. It's the only tamiya thing of any real rarity I own. And it is immaculate, never run, just not box art.

Its nice, wonder how it looks with the body on it. Reminds me of Japan with their funny boxy cars.

That's because it is a funny Japanese boxy car! It's a Honda City Turbo, probably the only car to ever come with a folding motorbike in the boot!

I have 2 of the re-re version of this, one is built and one in the box still (I will build it one day @grumpypants), these seem to be going for sensible money now as well! I'd love a vintage one though.

Only other RC car I have is a 58001 Porsche 934 Turbo with a ropey green shell that was gifted to me by a good mate. He found out I was into RC and gave me this and a 58018 Ralt RT2 Hart 420R in desperate need of some love and spare parts. Most of the shell is battered, and it's missing some chassis parts, but I hope to restore it one day.

I found a built-up static model of the Porsche that's around 95% complete, so I'll transplant that onto the 58001 chassis one day. I also found a new in box static kit of this at a toy fair for £100 a year or 2 back, so I'd imagine that is pretty rare too!

Since they're the only vintage RC items I got, they by definition, must also be the rarest :D

The 50208 ORV BUMPER AND GUARD SET

50208 ORV BUMPER AND GUARD SET

I bought this specifically so I could get that cool Froggy metal underguard. I found this on EvilBay from a company in Spain that seems to sell mostly clocks?

The Walton Group

They seem to have a lot of old Tamiya stock but it's listed by part numbers not by car?

Interestingly, this lot was listed by the SP50208 number, a Hop-Up sold by "Fantasia", but he tiny instruction manual names it "KIT NO. 5208" n the top right corner, but just under that to left, its "208". It's printed in Japan in 1984

50208 ORV BUMPER AND GUARD SET

Anyway, this goodiebag was shipped to me for less than 14EUR which is very reasonable :D

Cheers,

Ole

Not a unicorn by any means, but pretty hard to come by nonetheless. Sassy Chassis King Cab (with APM parts, too)

i do have a 417 prototype etc but they are not really rare cars just prototypes.

The 414x looks really interesting. I believe this was issued in the USA only about mid 1999, and it appears to have the gold coloured TA03 53280 Aluminum shocks which I had thought until now were unique (in that specific gold colour) to the 58227 TA03R-TRF chassis kit, which was released only about 6 months prior to the 414x, in December 1998. The front knuckles also look very much like the 53325 TA03 Aluminum Knuckle hop up part, unless I’m mistaken…?

The knuckles are unique to the 414X. The whole car is a limited run. It was a pain to get spares for the knuckles etc but they were the prototypes for the ta04 etc plastic parts. We all fitted those as they were more durable and lighter.

my other 414x is almost unrecognisable. It also has a different prototype chassis plate etc.

also as a note the 414x also had some more ‘copper’ coloured shocks in some kits. I still have mine somewhere in the box of spares.

If you are interested there is a lot more info on my website. Here are some articles.

I don't have the Metro, but I do have a couple of these, though probably nowhere near as rare as the Metro
