The bottom flap on the battery tray can be rotated 180 to give support to short batteries…

And if you don’t intend to upgrade the links, I highly recommend 54945.

Thanks @Frog Jumper. I’ve added the the low friction balls to my PJ Cart, I’d like to upgrade the drive shafts as well, but they are showing out of stock at moment, hopefully they come back in soon. Are there any other upgrades you would recommend? Noting that it will probably only see fairly light duties TBH

I was going to do a long write up, but I decided to do an update to my Post Build thread…

But to answer your question, I would get the Tamiya metal Motor Bridge and Spur Mount.  Install during initial build to avoid having to rebuild later if you decide you need them.

I would also add weights where you can and preload the kit shocks to preference.  I took all the spacers out of my kit shocks and used x-rings and green slime.  Kit 200 oil.  All this helps with the bouncing and lets it roll nicer.

Upgrade the wheels and tires.

You’ve already mentioned replacing the drive shafts.  Be aware of the length you’ll need per the wheelbase you choose.  I’m using a CR01 shaft for one of them (front I think).

For my own CC02, my next upgrade will likely be GPM shock mounts (I want Eagle Racing but pricey and hard to find) and Jaz shock mount bridges.  I’ve noticed that my kit shock mounts flex slightly, especially the rear.

Enjoy you kit!

Terry

Realised i hadn't updated build pics in here, and then realised i didnt have any pics anyway

Got a bit more done after a couple deliveries over the last week or so

Starting with Low Friction Balls to replace the plastic ones

52705946105_b6b71894a7_k.jpg

And the motor bridge

52705784549_4f623ec8f8_k.jpg

And the CR Tuned motor

52705532176_45b60647ab_k.jpg

Oh, I nearly forgot, The HW esc that arrived a couple weeks ago

52678485848_a7d334f9e8_k.jpg

All those bits fitted

52705532131_c3d20b8da4_k.jpg

I was then looking at the plastic steering link, then checked my parts and grabbed a stock steering link left over from my CR01. Shortened it and replaced the plastic stock one.

I have some what are described as “Super Soft” tyres from the far east on order, these kit ones will be for display purposes only as I’m certain that they wont work that well.

And next will be the body work, which with all its bolt on bits will be like another kit.

With the new tyres fitted, I noticed there was a lot of thread hanging out, and had read about shock springs rubbing on tyres. Enter some 10mm hexes:

Finally, some free time, and even better, some perfect weather…..

52835739002_908db851f7_k.jpg

I hate masking

Got the PS5 Black down

52836315131_ec35d2df7d_k.jpg

Followed by PS41 Bright Silver, then removed the over spray film of the black painted sections, and PS55 Flat Cleared before removing the remaining over spray. Happy how its looking so far

52836762748_bda3fd6b17_k.jpg

Angry with myself as my TS29 Semi Gloss Black has stuff all left in it for all the body accessories to come, so another trip to LHS tomorrow (After going today ) to pick some up.

Still a bit to go on this body, got the light kit to install, drill about 30 holes in it of varying sizes, and fit all the body accessories. The body alone takes as much work as the rest of the kit. Getting there though

Managed to get the TS29 Semi Gloss Black to paint all the body accessories, then drill 28 holes of varying sizes in the body, cut and apply 50+ stickers, fit the light kit and attach all the body accessories

Had this kit sitting on the shelf for a long time, since the first batch of re-re’s was released back in around 2014 from memory?

To start, I trimmed, painted and “stickered” the body

52968710320_ca9c185ef7_k.jpg

I have an original front shock tower, some reproduced BF8/9’s, and blue rod ends to make this look like the iconic original. Will hopefully get some time soon now to build the chassis, thinking a nice BZ SuperStock will look right at home in this kit

@Re-Bugged I was fortunate enough to get even more time to spend on this, so much in fact, that I finished this one. Although built to Box-Art, I’m beyond happy with how it has turned out with the original shock look, and blue rod ends

Love all the Carbon

Consider these to be Tamiya Jewellery

Ok, had this thing for over 10 years I’m sure, decided I might give it a tidy up, the chassis is in very good condition, and wont need much work TBH, The body isn’t great, but instead of just getting a new one, think I’ll try and strip this and attempt to save it. Progress to follow

She’s in pretty good shape for its age 👍🏻

And a separate x4 AA battery holder too, I haven’t seen one of those for a long time. Good luck with it.

So unfortunately and as I feared, the lexan has gone cloudy, not sure how this will turn out now, i think I’ll press on but will most likely need to paint it a dark colour

53400501859_44e86e3240_k.jpg

I may even shoot the outside with flat clear

@yogi-bear It’s unlikely I’ll run it, I’ll build it up with the original MSC so it will just sit on the shelf. Exterior paint is definitely an option, Like I did on my “Wild Fox”

Forgot to take pics but the car has been stripped with different parts in different cleaning solutions. There are a few issues with the car that may be hard to rectify without chasing down new parts which I’m not real keen on for this build. I have progressed on the body with paint on the outside, will let that harden, then sticker, then clear coat, should be progress tomorrow after work

Progress:

Gears all cleaned, mostly in VGC, “dog bones” are a little worn, but will do the shelf duties job

53409637768_0397111cb1_k.jpg

Larger plastic cleaned with Simple Green (Again parts aren't perfect but will do)

53409904350_87fd889f20_k.jpg

Now I’ve owned this car for over 11 years without really looking too hard at it , so imagine my surprise when stripping it that it has 2 different coloured rear trailing arms, 1 black, 1 grey. (Assuming the black one is from an Icarus or Cosmo I guess). Might have to try painting them, along with the main chassis tub.

53409797604_a248e4a55e_k.jpg

It even still had a Nicad battery fitted

53408541102_f0a7f62fcb_k.jpg

And finally the body, after it going cloudy as mentioned earlier, I ended up painting the outside firstly with a PS paint to “Prime” the surface, then TS (Used what I had - Racing Blue) followed by stickers and clear coat. The clear coat seems to have affected the stickers which is a first for me . Once it’s hardened up I will look closer to see if they can flatten out better. Don't want to do anything yet as the whole thing could get ruined, and I’m not keen on forking out for a TBG body for this car.

Its good from far, but far from good IMHO

Back when I bought this car, the biggest bonus was the Green 480T Lemans that was fitted. I paid less for the car than what the motor was worth at the time, so however this turns out, It wont owe me anything, based on that, I might even treat the rebuild to a set of bearings
