Hi all,

I'm looking at one of these:-

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-tiger-8250-2hp-24-litre-air-compressor/

... and for the power/capacity seems like a good deal.

Is there any reason not to use this with my airbrush? Noise is not an issue for me - my garage/workshop is detached and a long way from anything :) but I have been thinking maybe I need something "oil-less" and I'd also have to add a water trap?

Thanks for any input!

I've used my larger 150ltr clarke one in the garage and its been fine. I've got a water trap inline though, (only a couple of quid)

Firstly though, go onto the machine mart website and sign up/subscribe to their emails, then wait for the VAT free offer!

Aldi sometimes have them on offer too (usually the week after you buy one! 😯)

I had a similar compressor a while back - if you start to use it with proper air tools for doing stuff on your 1:1 then you will wish you had bought one with a larger tank !

I sold it and bought a twin cylinder compressor with a 100 litre tank :-)

Lidl also have compressors in store sometimes.

I have an Aldi one and for pumping the tyres up, removing wheels e.t.c .its fine. For an airbrush as mentioned a water trap and GOOD (accurate and stable) regulator will see you right. My Aldi one cost me 99 quid IIRC so this one looks a good price.

I had a similar issue.

I used a 1/2" T piece and now run both together, so now effectively a triple cylinder 175 ltr 😀

Adding ball valves to the T piece also gives an option as to either or both depending on job.

I use a similar compressor for my airbrush. I put a "T" fitting on the air outlet port and ran one line through an oil trap and a filter.  The other line is just a normal fitting so you can air up your car and bicycle tires.

Lidl have a 24ltr tank compressor in from tomorrow - 22nd Sept @ £79.99 - looks like a good buy.

Also lots of air tools to go with it :)

I must admit I was a bit sceptical about the Lidl 'Parkside' branded tools to start with but thought I'd try a couple and was very impressed with them - have bought quite a few more since.

Thanks all - really helpful.

The Lidl one looks like a great deal - I'll go have a look at one of those this weekend.

Aside from 1:1 stuff, I've also been thinking it would be great to be able to do things like bead-blasting at home, and looking around it seems you need 200+ litres/min delivery to do that. As an example the Lidl compressor (and Machine Mart one) is about 100 l/min, so half the required output.

So I guess I need to have a think about whether I just plumb for something bigger....

One thing to think about is, as you go bigger with the size, the power required goes up too.I ended up having to replace the power cable going to my garage and fitting a small consumer unit as it wasn't big enough to handle it.

I've used my small recently (not long moved house and not set up the other yet) for blasting a set of brake calipers. It did the job, but took a while (4-5 full ups per caliper, so only did one a day)
