Lancia 037 With DF03Ra Custom Chassis

Recommended Posts

Hello guys,
for some time now I am thinking about a new project and I decide to share with you my idea.
I'm a race car fan in particular I like the F1 and rally cars of the years 80-90.

I have a body of the Lancia 037 by Tamiya and I would like to build a new chassis with a wheelbase 237mm for this body. The latest chassis of Tamiya for this body was the TA03RS, with belt drive not specific for rally.

MONDIALE RALLY 1983 (67).jpg

My project is:
- Utilize the front and rear gearbox with suspension system of DF03Ra chassis.
- Realize the new chassis (upper and lower deck) in carbon with a new battery position and short propeller shaft.
- Install a combo brushless motorized, it could be a 12T.
- The Tamiya body is already of good quality. I would add the cockpit and light kit in order to realize the Montecarlo1983.

I already have some parts:

I hope to start as soon as possible my project,. Don't worry if the project won't proceed quickly, my time for the hobby is not much.

Sorry if my English is not perfect.

I'm on with something similar using the 037 body and a shortened TL01 chassis. Just painting the shell at the moment.  Watching with interest

What he said!

When I build one of my 037s it won't be on the standard chassis.  And I do have the standard chassis :D

Hello,
finally I start my project ...

The first steps are extremely simple, to build the front and rear gearbox just follow instructions of DF-03Ra manual.

The only change is that I directly installed the Slipper Clutch Set 53925.

For the moment I decided to install the original silver can Tamiya motor. I will replace it in the next steps.

Some pictures...

Rear gearbox:

Front gearbox:

I'm sorry for poor quality of pictures

I hope shortly to post new updates ...

In these days of holiday small updates ...

I finished the front and rear gearbox.:D

Now my attentions are on the lower deck.<_<

I make a "test lower deck" in short wheelbase using a PVC plate. In this way I can evaluate the best solutions for the shape and layout.
Afterwards i will make the lower deck in Carbon or FRP.

Ok, let's start in the drawing.

I hope updates in a short time...B)

Hello guys,

I started to make the “test lower deck” in PVC.

At the rear, I noted that the chassis could be particularly fragile.
The shape of the original chassis has a projection.
I decided to make a plate as reinforcement to the back of chassis, I have not decided the reinforcement thicknesses.

I try to assemble the chassis :D

Wheelbase is ok

First test with the body, not bad :D

Now I can prepare the supports for front and rear gearbox.

Updates in a short time...

@Ciano67 I love how this is looking.  I've refused to build any of my 037 shells with a TA03R-S due to the battery holder sticking out underneath, yours looks like it will clear obstacles nicely!
