Not quite at the prior speed, and the tape seems to have given up inside the tires so I am getting a lot of ballooning.

All specs are identical to what was previously listed:

a) Model of your car (DF-03, WR-02 etc)

--> CW-01 Lunchbox

The top speed in MPH and KPH.

--> 48.5mph (78 km/h)

c) Your car’s set up including:

d) Motor - Tenshock 36-40 motor - 2040 kv

e) ESC - castle mamba x

f) Battery - 2 x 3s lipo in series - 1200 mah each - in the stock battery location with no mods - just slid in next to each other

g) Gearing - 20 tooth pinion, rest of gears are stock

h) Tires - stock

I do have some evil plans for lowering a Lunch Box and giving it a go too....

Speedy, I am trying to kick-off the Lunchbox competition/participation in the list. Help me out... I've submitted my last run but that's just a start... We need to get a 'Box into the top 3.

It won't be easy, and I need someone to trade tips with...

So far ive got (one of) mine fully ballraced and waiting on me fitting the optima mid custom shocks (with castles mamba max pro and 5700kv obviously, but that's on DT03 duties atm 🙄)

That's a good strong motor for a Box. Plenty of power!

Too much power I think, only one way to find out!! 😁

Not going to 4 bar it, just drop the front down a bit,try either a 3rd shock or solid mount at the rear and an extended the wheelie bar/weight the nose....

There is no such thing as too much power :)

I prefer a simple brace over the 3rd shock  - less stuff to deal with and the gearbox stays in the right position.

The problem I'm having right now is ballooning. I had taped the tires before I glued them and for about 2 months it was amazing to see the tires maintain their shape at any speed. Now though, they balloon terribly and the truck becomes uncontrollable above 70km/h.

I can't easily unglue the tires and redo the tape, so I am going to try using fishing line. I have read about people using that (externally, laced between the treads) to eliminate ballooning.

I like your thinking 😁

I thought a bit of ballooning was a good thing, the same reason they run low psi in Goodyear eagles running pro fuel, unless one grows more than the others?

Are monster beetle wheels/tyres an option?

Foam inserts? 🤔

This DT03 is a learning curve!

Doesn't seem to respond greatly to suspension changes, not many gear options and the big tyres are an absolute nightmare!

The steering is an issue atm too, just won't centralise, don't know if I'm getting bump steer or naff servo saver....

Does the front differential make that much difference in weight on a 4wd for keeping it stable at high speeds?  I see these 2wd buggys struggle at high speeds and the Tt02b is effortless. I would love to try a larger motor I just need to stop on the credit card for a couple months.

I always consider ballooning to be bad as it results in loss of control (at least for me). I can see the truck floating across the street back and forth (without steering inputs).

I am going to try using the stock tires for a while longer. Just seems like the most fun to hit the speeds with a totally stock looking Box.

Of course, it's all 4 that will balloon 😔

Stockish lol

Suppose you could use brat wheels and tyres, plus the hornet pinion, but like you say, it's not a lunchbox then.

Combo of the front diff with the extra weight, but also and more importantly it's the pulling from the front wheels makes it sooo much easier to drive than just the pushing from the rear wheels.

Plus you can get to top speed much quicker in a 4wd car and brake a lot quicker so the places to run a 4wd are easier to find to achieve above 80-90kph.

The DT03 is going to struggle... as you put the power down the front end wants to lift so steering control will reduce and start to do it's own thing,  and the big ballooning rear tyres don't help, .... I doubt you'll get this DT03 to over 90kph in that same car park you used for the DF03 93KPH run..... it's doesn't look big enough to safely get up to speed and then  brake safely too.... I'm sure you'll endure many attempts (that's the frustrating fun part) before a successful run.... hopefully before June? (no pressure lol)

ps - did you say you was adding weights to the front of the car?

It's not reduced steering, it's darting off to the left or right, even on part throttle!

I'm down to 60% on the epa, tried swapping balls joints from top to bottom on the servo saver and fitted the DF03 rear tyres. I've flipped the bottom arms though, to make the car a bit longer, so guessing putting them back the right way is next 🤔

You have something brewing??

If need be, with the DF03's on the rear, the fronts not lifting as much as its more wheelspin,(but nice wheelspin, the stock DT03 spikes spun out way to easy and the fastrax on road ones worse still!) so the 'weight' is just behind the front shocks, infront of the GPS.

Maybe a rear wheel is dragging compared to the other one causing darting off to the left or right as it tries to push itself round.

No, I've nothing planned I was just winding you up about how long these attempts take.... look how we haven't heard from ElDougo, he was supposed to be posting here 2 weeks back with a 60mph run.... life happens ;p

Stock "looking"...

The pinion is Robinson Racing, 20t (largest I can get through the opening in the gearbox). There is more room inside the gearbox so I am debating enlarging the hole in the side of the gearbox so I can gear up more. I ditched the spacer and just use an aluminum adjustable motor mounting plate. Very tricky to actually use but very effective.

Thanks! A lunchbox is now in the top 10, although literally in the absolute lowest position that anyone would call top 10 :)

It is a start, though.

Uh-oh - If you modify the gearbox in any way it will go into the modified section, all on it's own, like a leper ;p

Hey, it's why I made it 10a, 10b lol ;p

I'm chomping at the bit to do a run but got rained off on the weekend. Since the 56Mph run I've added a bigger pinon, slightly smaller spur, foam tyres and a bigger capacity battery!  I have a good amount of room for taller gearing so It's gonna happen soon :)

I missed this DT03 stuff, have you got another project on the go Wooders?  If so do tell ? :)

Got my new esc set up properly in three Thunder Dragon today. Holy ****balls! Strapped my spare phone to the car and got this

2017-05-02_08-20-47

27.64mph. That with regular 2.2" street tyres, not quite fully charged Nimh 7.2v battery and 14t pinion. I have a 17t pinion in the bit box.......

That is very respectable given that set up... if I get a lot of my cars to 27mph that's a fun place to be for daily running.
