Maybe a rear wheel is dragging compared to the other one causing darting off to the left or right as it tries to push itself round.

Tried to eliminate that by packing the diff,

Maybe need something thicker?

Uh-oh - If you modify the gearbox in any way it will go into the modified section, all on it's own, like a leper ;p

Hey, it's why I made it 10a, 10b lol ;p

Ha! Funny. To be clear the gearbox has not yet been modified. No need to banish the box to the leper colony so soon.

I made a run with my FF01 this weekend, a little disappointed....with a 3s Lipo, 66t spur and 25t pinion and 5000kv ish motor I only got 36mph before destroying the gearbox (heat melted the counter shaft end caps)

Back to the drawing board...maybe I need to go a bit more up to date with stronger gearboxes.

In other news though.....the Sand Scorcher is nearly back for another run, this time with better gearing for top speed and 12mm Hex conversion. Just need to get some new wheels. Would like to break 40mph with it

Funnily enough,I priced up the gear sets, and it's around the same price as 500k diff oil, so was thinking belzona! 😁

Joking aside, if you leave a very thin smear of grease on the gears and the diff case, using silicon bathroom sealer should be removable after the event, and should provide a bit of cushioning to the gears as it does not set 'solid'. I've not heard of the belzona, but I thought the araldite might be a bit on the heavy side, and at high rpms might be imbalanced if not very evenly spread around the diff.

I'm going to order a better servo saver first, or at least find a replacement to superglue up (the servo part of the saver is off my DF03).

Belzone is a posh araldite, "A 2-part repair composite for metal repair and resurfacing based on solvent-free epoxy resin reinforced with silicon steel alloy" ,sets like metal. Balance would be an issue, so would need to pack it full and try and squeeze out any air gaps before it set.

Not familiar with that gearbox but does the counter shaft need to rotate? Can it be immobilized so only parts mounted on bearings are rotating?

For that setup your down a lot of Mph from where you should be.  I put a the GPS on friends FF01 (just to see :)) and it hit 30Mph with a 4000kv,  32t pinon and a 3800Mah 25C 2s lipo.

Your battery could not be enough C to support the current draw or it could be the ESC holding you back, it might also explain the excessive heat......  What Battery, ESC and Motor are you running?

I run blue-tack in one of my drift cars :)  It gives a tiny bit of slip when launching (nice), only downside is that it gets less effective as it heats up.

If your locking the diff a glue gun is the best method I've found as it's very effective and relatively easy to remove.

It's only Cheap Chinese stuff....but went for the highest ESC at 120A

GoolRC 5200kv Motor

Turnigy 2600mah 20c 3s

I've got some bearings coming to replace the bushes on the counter shaft...and then will try and fix it in place so it just spins on the bearing.

Well the battery is only going to supply 2.6A*20, which is 52amps, so I'd say the battery is what's letting you down. The max rating on my 60A speedo was a 4000Kv motor at 3S, so I suggest a battery with some more capacity or a higher C rating.

I'm crap at the technical stuff lol.

I'll give it a go....

I have a 4500 2s 30c I think...so will use that as well to see the difference between a decent 2s and an underpowered 3s

Another run....another crash!

I've left the Raw 38.7mph speed run in this video so it can be updated. Only difference to last run is 65t Spur and 20t Pinion.

I did hit 40mph...but it was after a big roll...so I didn't take it as a genuine speed (although I'm sure it was). Few mods to the suspension to stop it rolling so much and this should be mid 40's I reckon.

To be continued....

Managed to sneak a run in after work☺  Had camera opperator issues again and didnt get the fastest run recorded but I did get a 65.1Mph run captured.

I'll post the video in a few hours.

Wooders go slap another battery on your car ASAP 😁

Wow....

Bar well and truly raised!

I best up my game....not even broke 50mph so far this time around!  Had 53mph from a Stadium Blitzer about 5yrs ago...which makes this time around even worse lol!

How is traction with the Foam tyres on Tarmac?

It's awesome only downside is that they don't last very long.

You have a spare man and still have camera issues! Tape an old mobile to your handset, just to remember to pan with the car.

The DF03 is laying in bits, with most of the parts on DT03 speed duties, nightshift weekend coming up though...........🤔

The more I look at the FF03 and that white Honda Civic body .....  the more I like it..... I hadn't paid much attention to it before,  but seeing this is really tempting me to add it to my collection.... pity I own the latest model Honda Civic after this shape as it would be cool to own the same RC car as the real car.

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/tamiya-1-10-scale-j-a-s-civic-r3-w-ff03-chassis-kit-58476.html

Having the front mounted motor (useful weight not dead weight) and being front wheel drive gives it a definite advantage over a rear wheel drive car, it's much easier to pull a car along from the front than push it along from the rear........ , so much so that I'm going to split the categories into FWD, 4wd and RWD categories, as they can't be compared against eachother, it's like apples and oranges.
