I think the TT class has the best opportunity to be top of the boards simply due the the insane gear combos available without modifying the gear box.  Maybe I don't know enough about other cars to make this call but I think I have just scratched the surface of what the tt-02b is capable of at 78 kph.  That's with a off brand low voltage motor and small tires.

Jason,

That was especially shoddy and thanks :)   I'm confident we will see lots more from Wooders!

I'm currently rebuilding my TT01 and locking the diffs....

So if the FF01 fails to impress....I will move on to the TT.

The SRB is about as quick as think it can go without destroying itself;...after all, the metal parts are crap Pot metal...(Alloy, Nickel and Tin I think)...so very weak. I'll get it to break 40mph and call it a day.

RPM, RPM :)

This is my TT02 FRD.  It would make an awesome speed run car, such a shame it's not made by Tamiya :(

Looking forward to the rise of the TT02's then, 4wd have super brakes!

So where's the best place in the UK to buy a FF03, anyone got a link to the history of the front motor mounted  FWD cars from Tamiya? I think they made an FF01 and then 15 years later made their next Front motor mounted FWD car in the shape of the FF03.. are there any other front motor mounted Tamiya's?

Note I'm interested in FRONT MOTOR MOUNTED FWD cars ;p

(as I have seen some other FWD cars but they don't have the motor mounted out front - mid mounted and towards the rear)

Sweet :)

Not UK but I found this place after I got mine.  http://www.rcjaz.co.uk/tamiya-rc-models-onroad-car-kit-ff03-chassis-c-82_289_2411.html  They also have the pro version in stock but haven't ever ordered from them.

Tees also have the Civic and I have found that if you use Hong Kong post it usually doesn't come with a ransom note attached.

I had forgotten about this thread I did a few years ago:

It's got my experience in it of trying to make the TT-01 go stupid fast. I found it really quite problematic a. getting the power down, and b. keeping it in a straight line. Still the thread is good for a laugh.

I'm not sure about anyone else, but couldn't see anything wrong with that vid, made your car look quicker too!

On a positive note I'm now motivated with the next challenge and looking seriously at RWD options.

DO IT!

Nothing like getting a new chassis to find that all the draws of parts you've got don't fit! Interesting trying to find variants of different chassis parts that do fit etc though.

Out of interest, if i take the rear drive shafts out of the dark impact, would it be classed as a fwd?

I guess so, as long as you hold it up to camera showing just the front wheels spinning under power all in the same sequence.

Not sure when it happened, but new car's all seem to have small bumpers, needed something to remedy that....🤔

Have we started a new craze for steel front bumpers ? ;)

I've been looking for my next project car and I noticed that the XV01 has the same front motor position and spur/pinion setup as the FF03.  It's also nice that it can be set up in any drive configuration, the enclosed battery tray isn't good and it will be similar money but it's got potential.   Did you get a Rally car in the end?  Two birds one stone :)

Thanks Wooders and I'll let him know.  I added the video to my speed run post for completeness.

I did some late night purchasing, couldn't decide so now have an empty wallet and two new cars on the way.  Dam shinny things :):(:)

There is an XV01 Long Damper spec model coming out real soon but this would be better suited for a rally spec than a speed run, it can always be converted back and forth between the two modes though so maybe wait for that one to come out if you want some variation.

What is the gearing options on the FF03 and are you already at the upper limits available?

I saw the 3.5turn motor you are using is equivalent to over 9000kv which is monstrous… not much more room to increase the RPM’s on the motor front then?

I did buy a TT02 (4wd on road car) but wanted to set it up for Rally spec so not sure if it will get given a speed run attempt, but the 4wd does appeal to me to consider it.

What two new cars did you buy then??????

Looking at your sig it’s given me an idea to trump it one way or another…. ….. on the case now ;p

There, that not a a signature, this is a signature - ...... lazy Friday afternoons at work make for idle hands!

My castle 5700 states 3.5t on the can.

I've a 2.5t to try, not sure what the kv is though....

That's the one I was looking at, I'm very tempted myself.

I'm just scratching the surface with the gearing and it was the main reason I chose the car. To give you an idea with the 66T Spur and 34T Pinion I'm almost at the start of mounting slots.

The motor is 9550Kv :)  It's on stock timing and no boost on the ESC so there is a little room, I won't be going there until someone puts a faster run in.

An F103Gt and a TRF419x, I intend to take the 419 club racing although it might end up doing a couple of speed run's.

Your's is better :)   I'm gonna ditch the sig when you put the top 10 back up.

I like the TT02.  With the Yeah racing motor mount and Tamiya high speed gear kit it could be made to go!

It's black magic and there are lots of variables :)  In most cases 5700kv would be a 5.5T.

3.5Turn motor is 9410kv - see link

Wooders, sure, you can have a 5s related signature, something like - "Biggest Voltage pack stick on outside of Tamiya - Club" :)

Col Dougo, it's clever to keep some in reserve... wish I had done that lol ;p

If you go down on the spur the same as you go up on the pinion, the motor position will stay the same anyway.

That's the trouble I'm having with the DT03, no gear options to speak of, meaning the need to go to awful huge donk wheels and tyres. Still searching options, not sure if the hornet counter gear could be an option. Good at getting the grey matter working I guess!!
