Attaboy keep at it, lucky to find a spare spur like that, wish I could!

I went to put a fast motor in my new to me DF02 buggy to try and get a decent 4wd top speed entry - but after rebuilding the diffs and replacing the bearings the first indoor test broke the spur gear where it sits on the pin... it shattered the plastic at the centre hole... guess it's an older buggy than I thought ;)

So I immediately ordered a new 70t spur and then later researching the gearing for this DF02 I found it can also  support a 67t spur which allows an increase in pinion from 19t to 22t .... so I'll run it 19/70 and if it can handle it later go buy the 22/67.

I've got the 67T in mine and it was ok for the 50mph run I did, I've got a funny feeling I'm still running with a plastic motor mount as well. It's also worth taking the motor out and carefully turning over the transmission to look for tight spots. Sometimes there is flash left on the edges of the metal gears which can cause slight binding, which needs doctoring with a needle file. I also had to turn down the outside edges of the centre drive shaft cup holders so that they did not foul on the chassis.

It might also be worth while looking into using light oil in the diff housings instead of grease. I found that the grease doesn't stay on very long when running at high rpms.

Let me know if you want some tall body posts making if you need to run a 3 or 4S ;) brick.

I forgot I had the TT01 alloy motor mount but will fit it next time I get into the rear gearing area when the 70t spur shows up.

I saw your rapid Gravel Hound that's what made me choose the DF02 as a test bed 4wd buggy, that and there's plenty of hop ups available for later when I get to casually play with it.

My 2s lipo hardcase just fits but thanks for the offer of raised body posts I'll drop you a message if needed :)

I've just stripped the TA-03 down and I've done a little more damage than I first thought. A plastic bearing had melted on the counter shaft and damaged the housing slightly (It's not terminal though). Hence why the belt came off...the counter shaft/gear was just floating around in the housing.

Thats the risk at running with plastic bearings...which I knew was on the cards!

Anyway...all stripped and cleaned, Diff greased (it was completely dry and doesn't look like its ever had any lube! ) So it's now a little tighter and not rattling around!

Just got to wait for my new gears and then may give it another run. I have enough spare bearings to do both gearboxes, just not got any the right size for the hubs.

Awesome work, has to be a world record for plastic bearings. There are quite a few really fast cars coming together and it's going to make hitting the top 10 very tough soon :)

I was out again but another fail day and a wait for RC Mart before I can run again.  That's the third time in a row........ I'm keen to get a clean run so I can post a better speed, retire the FF03 and work on the F103GT.   Maybe next time :)

Sneak mode on:

Doug, I think I speak for everyone when I suggest you could consider retirement for the Ff03, it's already top of the leaderboard and you risk just looking like a greedy greedy thing now by trying to stretch that gap even more.

3 failed runs, Mr Tamiya might be trying to tell you something.

Sneak mode off:

There guys, that should either make him retire it or he's going to dig his heels in and post an even faster run, if that's the case my gamesmanship backfired ;)

I personally can't stand to see the Honda Civic shell destroyed but that's my own battle ;)

My TT01 with my fastest set up, 25/55 gearing is rapid. I have steering issues though so it's not drivable, took it out the other day but broke the Spur/Pinion cover.

Even with erratic steering I managed 70kph on half throttle.

It'll will run a time at some point!

Does that say 124kph?

72.4Mph, I'm trying for 75+ with the current gearing (48pitch 66/40). It will be shelved after that, but probably not for long the way things are moving :)

I'm not going to get the gearing I was hoping for on the F103Gt but it should still be fun to see what it does. I got a Nissan R390 shell for it so hopefully Jason won't mind seeing it do the tumble :)

If you can get a clean run in the FF that will take some beating!

F103 looks lovely!

I think once @Jason1145realizes how silly fast the TT class is capable of and starts his, the top spots are going to be dominated by 4wd and FWD's.

What do you think would be faster, a TT02 in on road guise or TT02b with those bigger buggy wheels?

I just looked at my gorgeous looking brand new unmarked fully built Rally prepped TT02 Chassis with its pristine white Lancia Delta Killer Bodyshell and I almost don't want to risk it on a high speed run... but then I got over that real quick.. now I'm just waiting for the Tt02b's (Macinnis) to set an even hotter pace.

If it makes you feel better, I've never rolled my TT01, it generally just slides.

Although that road you run yours on is a bit risky for a catastrophic crash! lol

I just need to stay on the throttle a bit longer.  I checked my 3s and even though it's only a 1500 mah it does have 40c output.

edit: I think you could get the rally faster with a larger motor and battery. The capacity is there, im just limited to what I have till the next round of purchases.  I have to slow down tho.

I just checked out the F103GT, never heard of it before this thread but it looks gorgeously simple, direct drive to the rear wheels, it's like a horse and cart but achievable of high speeds.

A quick scan on Youtube shows one doing 80mph, if that comes over here that's the new record holder.

You can buy a new F103GT for about £140... they look tidy.

Our own Speedywbeans has one, why is it not on this thread?

Massive off this evening with the TA-03....

Lost a front wheel (at 50mph+ and it dug in! rolled about 50 feet  spraying parts everywhere. Only caught a bit on camera....so not even got a nice crash video! I'll do a damage report this weekend!

Also broke the FF01!

Not a good day at all. So retiring for a week or so to get it all back together!

Pfffft!

It's kinda wild that 50mph barely cracks the top 10 now.

The TT-02B is back on top speed duty.  I did some testing today and was able to stay on the throttle a bit longer and I cracked 94KPH.  I know it doesn't count until its on video but there is some tuning to be done.  Its lifting the front end due to aerodynamics.  I had to take the back wing off to get that speed.  It helped but it still tries to pull the front end up under full throttle ever so slightly.  Its on the brink of out of control.  I want this thing planted before I do a full video run.  @El Dougo, I'm gunning for that top spot!!! (insert evil laugh here).

Best of British bud :)  I would offer up some setup thoughts but I'm sure you got it covered. It's surprising how much difference a small change can make when your at speed and very satisfying when it pays off.

My parts for the FF03 finally turned up so I'm hoping to be back out on the weekend and I may have accidentally bought a TT02 on ebay :)

If you have any suggestions I would love to hear them. I'm just tweaking things here and there to see what happens. For your new tt02 project go ahead and get a high speed gear set on order. You may have access to smaller spur/larger pinion than me. These things are screaming fast with little effort.

I'm dying to get my DF02 on the list, maybe not the top spot but she's nearly ready with a full rebuild under her belt and a fire cracker rocket up her Jacksie.... I'm eager to see this 4wd approach my hard to control 89KPH rear wheel drive effort... it will atleast be easier to stop!

I'm also aiming for the fastest time using a 27Mhz radio, famous last words.

Has anyone else submitted an entry with a non 2.4Ghz radio?

Yep, that would be my 78kph gravel hound ;)

Ha great.. a target for my cross hairs... and using your own brass fitting against u too, down right ungrateful :)

If it was good enough for you on 27Mhz enough said... and I now have an excuse lined up.

I was hoping that the extra weight of the brass would slow you down ;)

I've done a quick bit of maths:

My car:

22t pinion & 67T spur = 7.92:1 ratio, battery 3S &4000Kv motor = 44400rpm. Therefore axle rotation = 44400 / 7.92 = 5606 rpm

Your car:

(Assuming you're using 19T as largest for that spur)

19T pinion & 70T spur = 9.68:1, battery 2S & 5900Kv motor = 51,600rpm. Therefore axle rotation = 51600 / 9.68 = 5330 rpm

19T pinion & 70T spur = 9.68:1, battery 3S & 5900Kv motor = 65490rpm. Therefore axle rotation = 51600 / 9.68 = 6765 rpm

For my car 5605 at axle = 79kph, assuming the same wheel size for your car, 5330rpm at the wheels = 75kph, 6765rpm = 95kph.

So the big question is, are you using 2S or 3S ?????

If you go to the 22/67 gear combo:

2S = 6515 at the axles = 91.8kph

3S = 8268 at the axles = 116.51kph =72mph = change of underpants if you're not on a runway ;)
