......... Wooders :)

I like how you point the finger at @Wooders28, and then proceed to pelt your RS4 at a tried and testet Back To The Future speed down the street :)

I think that's what smirk-racing did with the lunchbox speed run. The idea of fishing line run between the tread was suggested too.

I scuffed and taped the inside of the Lunchbox rear tires. Unfortunately that only lasted 3-4 runs and now the tape has given way. I only found out later that the internet recommends copious amounts of superglue when applying the duct tape. Now it too late as the tires are glued to the rims beyond my ability to get them off (boiling did not work).

The next experiment involves braided fishing line applied on the outside.

Stripped down the FF03 and apart from the obvious damage the counter gear has welded itself to the shaft and melted the case,  another parts order! lol

Hi Wooders, don't know how much this would cost, but motor manufacturer did state loss in Kv usually due to magnets being weak and resolution would be re-magnetise.

I bet this motor is over 10yrs old and I've beat on it with a 3S in the, well known for rubbish air flow to the motor, DF03 chassis.

I'll fire off an email to castle and see what advice they come back with ( buy our new super duper motor I'm betting! )

Just thinking that myself! 🤔

Splendid run, I've still to crack the national speed limit!

Ops, what's caused that?

Looks like that car is ready for retirement 🙄😁

I'd say just general wear and tear, what you think?

Not just yet bud, I'm thinking it's done at 80 ;)   And I'm sure you will break 60 soon, so so close.  Coincidentally I have the 5700kv Castle 4 pole in the RS4, it's truly monstrous.

I'm guessing it's too new to have got brittle, so maybe flung the grease and dried out or just not designed to run at those speeds!! 😀

Speed run entry

DT03, 5s 5700 , 2.8" maverick wheels and tyres, superglued front tyres! 🙄

90kph - 55.92 mph

5s x 5700kv = 105,450rpm at the motor! (90KPH)

3s x 6900kv = 76,590rpm at the motor ( 89KPH)

Either some kv have fallen out,

Or I need longer than the 160 (ish) meter drag strip!

I thought the Castle motors were rated to 100,000rpm max too?

Yep, so I mustn't be getting it maxed out.

105450 ÷ 5700 is only 3.7v

Fully charged is 4.2v a cell (which on that run had a run and overnight storage,so may have been slightly down, but still)

5s x 5700 = 119,700

3s x 6900 = 86,940

How much of these kv's are marketing figures? (ie, rwhp vs book bhp)

I'm hoping if/when I find somewhere to max it and it does grenade, it's doesn't take a tumble and invalidate the run!! 😯

No they use a cell voltage as 3.7 nominal for these purposes, even though fully charged it is 4.2 - someone didn't read the handy lipo guide lol.

Never mind invalidating the fun I hope it doesn't explode that exposed lipo and take the whole car out! ;)

I thought they where 3.7v until I found that lipo guide when swapping to lipo's. I presumed the 'kv' was per 'actual' volt and not rated on a lipo average, every days a school day!! 😎

It's not a simple case of multiplying Kv by v and that's your max rpm.  Motors will have a physical limit to their max rpm and so will the ESC, as pointed out by another member on here.  Generally the larger you go the lower the rpm.

Also motor manufacturers would not recommend spinning motors this fast due to failure.  Does Castle state xmotor Vmax has 100 000 rpm capability, what do they say their ESC capabilities is?

Wooders, you may benefit with a longer run area, also I have observed in speed runs, not just cars, that they would allow the batteries to rest for a period of time before setting off.  Don't know how much of an impact this would make.

All my castle motors have ,100000rpm max , written on them, I'm hoping that's a conservative warning 🙄

The area I run is just handy as it's on my way home. My guess @2.4m per parking bay , around 160 mtrs?

My lipo's have had a couple of hours rest min after charging, as I need to get everything cleared back into the car before the dayshift turn up! 😉

That's good, written specs.  I would then assume the ESC has the ability to spin to that rpm.  I know the ESC I want has a 250 000rpm limit.

Totally understand, with it being on your way home.  : )

With regards to rest, what I've seen is:  Batteries charged at venue.  Vehicle taken to start point under low load.  Vehicle left sitting for a couple of minutes.  Then do run.

Like I said, as to how much of an impact this would make, don't know.

Sheesh Wooders, you gonna make me enter those new 3 cars on the list arrgghhhhh ;p

I hope those builders take over your run spot muuuaaaahhhhhhhh ;p
