I was expecting that run to end in a fireball with that caption!

Close enough!! Lol

Thought it was the lipo's that had gone up, glad I caught it on camera though.

Ouch, I didn't see that in the video. Thats one of those castle mambas right? Seen them in a shop here for about $600, expensive run!

Yeah, not the cheapest of esc's! 😕

I stupidly thought I get one more run in, even after it cutting out, speeds acually dropping etc.

Turn the volume up, you hear it go bang and the end of the vid.

Thats the problem, volume down to nothing as is my habit when in my lounge and watching/reading/looking at toy cars. I think it would be preferable watching dodgy videos than toy cars! Will rewatch it.

Any idea if it was on its way out or overdone with 5S, gearing etc?

Asking too much of it without a rest, I should have just done a check out pass, then a full run and gone home, but no, I wanted 60 mph, it thermal cut out after the first full pass, which should have give me a hint...

I think the gearing is/was too tall,a 4 pole may pull it, it wasn't pulling as good as with the smaller big tyres on, the tyres ballooned too so maybe a good 170mm+ of rear end. I'd set the drag brake to 10% to give a controlled stop, but hit the brakes a bit myself on that one, just pushed it over the edge.

Well, it's been a busy weekend on here. Lots of updates, and a few 'fatalities' with @Wooders28 ESC and @Jason1145 DF-02 crash.

I just wanted to say thanks to Jason for starting this thread and maintaining the tables, it's certainly provided some entertainment and a bit of friendly competition over the last few months.

I was just thinking how well this list has progressed, thanks to all the participants and others who have not entered but passed by to comment and offer advice or probe for details.

Wooders I had no idea either your Mamba went up like that... I too pushed on with my DF02 after it cut out too but my luck held and the electrics were fine before so quit. My esc cost only £15 though unlike yours.

Ive just remembered there is a very good little esc from Traxxas called the VXL-3s which is rated up to 3s lipo and Waterproof.... I've pushed it to mid 50mph in a 2wd Slash back in the day.. I might end up with one of these if I can find one under £50. There wasn't any programmable features but they were reliable little units for me.

I was just thinking how this thread has taken off, 48 pages in not very long. What is scary is how fast everyone is! I haven't contributed in any way other than smartarse comments but its great reading. Everyones achievements I mean, not my comments!

Yes excellent thread....enjoying watching everyone's different set up.

I'm not sure i'll be at the top long.

Pondering about what RWD to try!

Right that does it, I'm refusing to 'like' everyone's comments on this thread now lol... my like button must be worn out ;)

There Jonathon, a smartarse comment to keep yours company, and Phil, you giving up with the Blitzer RWD?

I just found a new speed run area, nice and wide but I might get told off as it's got cctv on it and might be monitored... but doing these runs only take 2 minutes.. that might be enough to sneak under the radar.

I think it is great is that there are 6 different chassis types in the top 10, and that each of the cars is being mechanically reliable with far more power installed than they were originally designed for, and that they handle well enough to be driven at 50mph plus, particularly when you consider what the full scale speed would be.

Likewise

Has made me pull my finger out and actually run a couple cars I've been meaning to for ages!

Very interesting to see what others are doing and the speeds achieved with given set ups.

Big up Jason :)

Sand Scorcher was on its limit chassis wise, just kept breaking at the slightest fail. The metal parts are very weak.

Looking at a buggy....or M Chassis

@Wooders28

That's a shame the electrics let go, any idea what you're going to replace it with?

I've been told with my set-up, do 1 run and allow all components to cool down before next.

Try not to use brake after speed run, current draw.

Need to see what eBay throws my way!

A mamba max pro was on a few weeks ago and I hovered over the buy it now button! 😕

I normally only do 2 runs,a check out pass and a full pass, then go home, but was so close to a 60 mph run!!

Saying that, 80 on the check out pass, 95 on the first full pass (esc cut out) then 94, then 91 POP!!

Just a size comparison between the tyres sizes!

20170625_130324.jpg

I may of mentioned the tyres ballooned a bit, and it wondered all over the show (like doing plate spinning and controlling it with an rc controller) , managed to grab a screen shot from the vid.

I just wanna double up @Jonathon Gillham comment.. Been watching this thread for months now, fair play to all the entries! Just need to make a contribution myself now!

Building up to my entry, finished all my metal gearbox upgrade and chucked in my 25t pinion alongside the 64t spur and went for a test run yesterday. .. After only a minute or two found my next limitation, tyres ballooning (not quite as bad as @Wooders28 mind! 😲)

Max temp of 47c seen, dropped to 43 (max is bottom right of screen) by the time I got my phone out tho...

2mins later the pictured tyre ripped, only cheap combo mind...

Any recommendations for decent rubber guys? I don't fancy running foam as I like drifting around too..

Thanks...

I've used Proline quite a bit in the past, they've all been good for me.

You can drift about with Foams, just get a slight less grippy one. I use 37sh with allow a bit of slip.

Not so worried about grip, more so destroying them on the first run.. Never even seen a set, pictured them being really soft.. What's 37sh? Compound or brand?

Thanks

Limitation?!? Shouldn't be a problem, It's a 4wd chassis! 😛

I found the best, for 2.2", were the stock dark impact off road tyres!

I find them predictable, enough grip to get it moving but would spin the wheels instead of launching the front end in the air. What I used on the DF03 93kph run.

37sh is the grip levels the higher the number the harder the compound
