I think you and @M 800STD have different opinions on "serious speed" !

Mind he's building a 4s car to beat the 170mph record! 😎😁

A Tamiya for over 170mph??? DO tell.

@Jason1145Unfortunately I don't have a TRF, but if I did, that would of been entered straight away and I wouldn't of bothered wasting money on a F103, as the TRF would be a better challenge car.

It's good to see another member has TRFs and is willing to give it a go.

qatmix has proven my point by his testimonial, in how fast they are.  The design of chassis lends itself better to mods, such as larger motors/ESC and so on, unlike the other cars mentioned.

If Phil purchased his car, body, wheel/tyres and electrics all for £35, well what can I say - absolute bargain.

lol,  Wooders - shhh, it's a secret.

Who wasted money on a F103? Do you mean my F103GT's, well they weren't bought for the speed run more just because I liked the look of them.

Forgive me too if I came across rude, I just haven't seen a TRF entered here so don't know about them,  it's a learning curve, waiting to be edumacated as they say :)

Wheelspin have them cheap

Thanks Phil , the e-bay link didn't work for me and I already have some Contact foams, hadn't realised that there duel compound.  I also have some Matrix foams (Rc Mart) and they seem to hold up better than the Contacts.

I've only just really paid attention to this thread. Needless to say a SKYRC unit is on the way for my Birthday and I can then join in the fun. I just need to decide which TC to choose to mod.. and to find somewhere suitable to do it.

Welcome to the party, really looking forward to seeing a TRF run :)   I still can't get past the shiny thing thing with my baby.  mmm shiny thing.

Not sure what flavour it is, but if the bar is 170, being quick brings a new meaning! 😁

@Jason1145Whatever you decide to spend your money on is your business, I'm just commenting on my projects.

Each day is a learning curve for me too.  One of the best lessons, never assume.

That was me!

Although at £45 delivered, with spares, motor and a servo I wouldn't say I wasted money. Tbh, it's about as high as I'd pay for an on road thingy me bob as I just cannot muster excitement with them, I'm much happier flinging car's off sand dunes and ramps 😎😂

@Wooders28It's a Buri-Racer, with some special parts.  : )

Whether it be T or not, having a 150mph car would do me.  Taking the record, well that would be a dream.

That looks ,urm , lacking in the suspension department! You're going to need somewhere seriously flat to run it, if an ant pops it's head up it'll flip! 🤔😂

Fingers crossed bud you hit the numbers! 🤞👍

Very nice! I am not running my TRF419 in this, far too good a car for risking serious damage. Plus I'm racing this weekend.

I have some well used doner cars that will make a 415 of sorts. I have a dinky spur and some large pinions, coupled with one of my old mod motors it will be a start but I doubt I will initially be anywhere near the TA03 to begin with.

@Wooders28Yeah, got a few ideas on how to put some suspension on the chassis.  Will have to build ideas to see their worth - long process.

The venue in August is at an airstrip.

The thing that attracted me to it was it simplicity and it's 4WD.

Cheers Pal, not only do I want to do this for me but for the manufacturers that have supported me - not sponsorship.

My TA03R All in (Motor, ESC, Battery..Foams etc...)...less than £1 per Kph :)

I'm just over £2 per Kph, but lipo's at £30+ each and wheels/tyres at £20 each (spent more on those than the chassis itself! Lol) things add up quickly! 😔

Sorry again,  I just thought your earlier post sounded like you were dissing every car entered on the speed lists for not being serious cars for high speed lol... I had no idea you are trying to break a 170mph RC record... but how would I, no one had said anything about it before.

So ofcourse when you made that comment, you just looked like a badword.. my mistake and I'm glad it' all cleared up now pal... never *** u or me right :)

Cant wait for your entry if you submit one here.

You aint the only one!

Especially with numbers like (Sorry I'm rubbish at keeping secrets!😕) :-

"171mph in 7.2 seconds and max 226mph

And if we increase the Cd to 0.36 due to downforce we get

170mph in 8.2 seconds and max 198mph"

@Jason1145

That's ok.  You have to compare apples with apples hence why it was not mentioned.

You know, I too purchased a F103 recently.

@Wooders28

Like the man said, "Very rough figures".  I feel like I've jinxed the project by posting that.

Naa, you've done loads of research, maths and actual planning to worry about stupidstitions!

Finally have all the parts to fix the FF03,  @Phil_H I'm coming for you ;)

I decided to go budget with some of my TT02 upgrades and went for some Yeah racing parts, have to say there really crappy compared to Tamiya. The shocks all leaked, the drive shafts need a small mountain of shims and the steering arms have a ridiculous amount of vertical slop. I did manage to find an awesome 3s battery for it though, it's a car pack sized 4500Mah 65-130C and it fits under the standard battery brace with a 3mm spacer under the posts.  If everything goes well Saturday is speed run day :)

Ooooo, nice cells! 😮

It might be a placebo effect, but I'm sure my 3s has swollen a bit.

Ps, I think you need more shock pistons.....

Sitting here this weekend, feet still up.... awaiting the first speed run entry....feeling slightly anxious :)

I was going to have a crack tomorrow, but this weather is relentless! Wettest June on record and I'm guessing July fancies it's chances too! 😔

Nothing from me, it's too hot to go outside and uncomfortable hot inside too.. just bought 2 portable aircon machines for my bedroom and my 15 month baby girls room... and I'm waiting for my DF02 spur to arrive ;)

My A/C is on in our bedroom for a few hrs every night. Brings the Temp down to just bearable :)

I might go for a few practice runs if I get time, although after the monster run my ESC seems to be playing up.
