You're a braver man than me Wooders risking an expensive-ish Castle esc, all my speed runs are done on the cheap Chinese esc's that say rated for 2/3s lipo.... but I haven't had one go pooooof yet.... if it does I hope it doesn't take out the lipo and car with it.

I have bought (before my spending cut) a Tazer brushless motor with inbuilt esc, think it was 3800kv, cost £60 which is expensive for my Tamiya's (used to spend £150 on my old 1/8's before parenthood).. but it's still sat in a box as I can't decide what to fit it into yet.

Mr Gillham, you must have lots of open quiet roads in NZ to attempt a speed run, I’m thinking desolated roads with zero cars in the middle of no where??

It’s a pity you aren’t building up to a speed run entry, one of the biggest obstacles is finding a suitable place to attempt it, just look at Phil H with his TA03 thingy, he is top of the leader board with a car that cost him circa £40 second hand! J

There are those sort of roads around but the quality is awful, ie rough chip seal, potholes etc. I also live in Auckland quite close to our airport so the roads are busy. BUT in saying that no one ventures out of their homes before about 11am on Sundays, and near the airport is a commercial/industrial area with some nice roads, so yes, there is a perfect spot.

I also have 2 TT02Bs (with DF02 rear diffs) which now sit on the shelf because the Novafox and Boomerang replaced them as our go to cars. I only have a 13.5T motor and 2s lipo though, and the best escs are wired into the racecars with 17.5T motors on the ends of those wires and no connectors so am limited to TBLE-02S as well.

So yes it could be done quite easily, I do plan on new escs for the racecars at some point which could handle crazy low turn motors and 3s or 4s but need signoff for those, and often see secondhand 5.5T motors come up cheap 2nd hand which are beer money.

Would a TT02B or TA07 be a better speed run car? I really want an excuse to buy a TA07...

Maybe this summer, which is your winter so maybe I should say Christmas, maybe

Back when I was pushing for 60mph in my Stadium Blitzer (about 5yrs ago) I spent about 4 times more than what the TA03 cost me!

And whats even better, my TA04 chassis was cheaper than the 03...and I have good feelings about its performance (had a cheeky test last week). 120kph is my goal....and then I might buy a decent Motor & ESC :)

It's there to be used and abused!

Although I thought it would be the motor that would let go first with the maths.

Looking like it's the motor and the lipo's too, the 3s only lasts a few mins now and had an error on charging a few times, so it's storage charged, double bagged in its own ammo case atm.Thr motor smells of burning and cogged (juddered) when I put the sidewinder on it, and the wires got hot quickly 😔

Gets expensive this speed record milarky!! 🙄

Broken the 60mph with a buggy!! 😮

Well done sir (video proof now required 🙄😁)

Edit:- Broken it again, forgot about a previous run (note to self, pull finger out.....)

Not quite, but pretty close to the top 10 list with 25/88 gearing. Now got 40/78 I think.

Well...the TA04 is geared pretty quick!

Had 1 test run with a small burst at full throttle...got a PB.

But.....then went for the proper speed run and ended up loosing control and rolling it, luckily onto soft long grass. Enough to do a small amount of damage and a missing driveshaft/CV.

I won't tell you what the GPS said as the car rolled, although judging by the test run result it was as plausible reading. I'll save the suspense for a clean entry.

Of course it would be :) From looking at pictures it's only downside would be the battery options.  I've seen another car I want, I really need to stop looking.

Nice work on the PB Phil and I hope you did a FOD check :)

The forecast here is still shocking so I doubt I'll get to run again this weekend, consider the suspense building :)

FOD check done of course, I think it all ended up in the grass, no chance of finding it. Anyway, if they are the same as the TA03 then it should be back in business tomorrow. Not sure when I'll get another run this weekend though.

Rain :(

Got my mitts on the new toy, it's a TB Evolution IV and apart from needing a new prop shaft and a few rounded hex heads it's in remarkably good condition. I'm sure it wont stay that way for long though :)

Nice, rain in Clevedon has stopped play to....

Yeah, rain here too...

It did dry up, but the tarmac was still to slippery.

I keep loosing my driveshafts, the amount of rotation must be twisting them out, I need to think of a solution

Looks like my cheap Chinese esc died after the last run in my DF02, the motor works as I tested it in another car, guess 6900kv and 3s lipo geared 19/70 was too much for it :(

New esc ordered, well 4 of them to be exact as I have run out of spare ESC's  and have a few rollers and kits that will be needing some in the coming months.

We're all chomping at the bit to get the next run in, mine will be with the DF02 and after that the TT02, past those I've no plans for anymore speed runs.

I'm after a 70mph, which this TA04 should do with a clean run ...then I may take a break and get something off road for a bit of bashing (and a speed run of course lol). Quite fancy a City Turbo, will run well on the Golf Course over the road (I'm sure the old boys will love that!)

Nice car, but that's a Evo 4 not a 5.

IV = 4 ;)

Lol! I know that just need to wear my glasses when using my phone. Watch out for the prop shafts on this, they twist and snap with anything too powerful. Also the steering Turnbuckle will hit it if you clip a corner, this can also wreck the prop shaft. It handles great though.

The front bevel gear can also strip but that's only on collision, if doing speed runs there will be bigger issues if you hit anything :)

Another one bites the dust!

We should have a cemetery section for all the parts that gave up their existence for the quest for more speed 🙄😁

Good man!

Funny how that happens 😂

Actually had good weather today (brits talking about weather again🙄), well it only rained for a couple of hours!

Just took the KF2 for a wee speed run outside work, more for a before and after test tbh, ordered a new ,well,2nd hand esc as i think the speed passion is struggling with the reedy 6.5t and I was getting left for dead on the straight on Wed night by a 7.5t car (and 6yr old driver 😕).

Poor show, 44kph - 27.3mph, looking like I'm getting receiver issues now too as it was darting left and right, and with the camber and dust issues, kept spinning out. I'll upload a vid at the weekend (well tomorrow, my weekend! 😁)

No idea what a KF2 is, new bargain bucket from KFC?? ;)

My 4 ESC's only cost £70 total, can't bring myself to spend £££ on them for my casual use, if I had a track to visit and get embarrassed by a 6 yr old then I'd reconsider... pesky kids, no respect for their elders... did he beep and flash his headlights at you to move over as well?? ;)

With the price of these things, it wouldn't be much of a bargain, or it would need to be some size of bucket! 🙄

My recent max pro and 7700 4 pole purchase cost less than that, I got miffed with the unreliability of cheap stuff, but if it works!

He's running some of the national events and been to rc driving school days! Actually laughed when he passed me, thought about giving him a nudge off the rostrum 🤔😁

There were some pics of how people are filming runs, managed to get a pic, with the works shift phone (a kind of modern Nokia 3310, so not the best)

IMG00023.jpg

Anyway, the run.

Schumacher kf2se , low grip motor position,speed passion revention R esc, reedy 6.5t , 65c 2s shorty lipo.

44kph - 27.3mph
