I'd consider a brushed category a necessity if you don't want the thread to go stale. We are now at the stage we're we need purchase specific equipment, not just what's in the toy cupboard!

In reality whatever category you have it will involve spending. Brushless is cheaper than brushed.

Although it will still be good as a separate category.

Ideally I'd like a silver can category, it's about keeping costs down, agreed it will involve some spending, but keeping spending to a minimum to involve more people and encouraging ingenuity. The famed 1060 and a new 540 will set you back less than £20, plus the inevitable 3s lipo  (or 12 cell nimh??🤔)

A few simple rules to keep cost down is the key ;)

Only to one category, we don't want to keep speeds down too!! 😁

Are you hinting for a new category??? ;p

Actually it's not a bad idea to review it from time to time.. I don't see the overall top 10 changing too much now with the bar being set so high... it might freshen it up to have different categories running alongside it now.

Let the suggestions commence, those with traction will be considered so please don't be offended if your suggestion doesn't make it :)

For new categories, I think if you limit the motor power / type, ESC, etc, all this will do is create a niche where higher performance cars (i.e. on road cars) will always win out in the end, although I think a 1060ESC / silver can / 3S LiPo would be a well subscribed caterogy

I would suggest an off road category, fastest speed on an unprepared surface, such as bare dirt, gravel, sand, etc, (I.e. not concrete or gravel).

Also, having been watching street outlaws recently , another possibility would be to have a top ten list where a spot is held by a single driver / car combo. That way each driver can only enter a single car, which could make it interesting for more people. Lets face it, once you have a reliable monster brushless / LiPo combo, you can put it in pretty much anything and make it go very fast, swap it from car to car and hog the list.

That said, the formula that we have is pretty good considering it's produced 60 pages of content in under a year, and shown Tamiya cars can go fast without disintegrating.

Of course, what it's crying out for now is for us to get together for a day of drag racing over 1/40 of mile :D, then it's not just about top end, but good acceleration / grip as well.

I like the sound of a silver can category... this could be run on nimh or lipo depending on your esc.

So keys take a vote, 5 replies agreeing to a silver can category and it'll go in asap... the only rules in addition to the existing ones are it's got to run on a silver can and speed run entries will need to show the silver can motor in the video... this means zooming in to it to prove it's not a 5000kv brushless motor in there!

1 vote so far from me.

+1 from me. I can dust off some of my old MSCs and go for a 'meltdown' 6S run ;)

In the video run of my FAV on page 14 you can see the end bell of the silver can at the end of the video, so I reckon that's good for the first entry already  ;)

Given my contribution to this thread has been encouraging fireballs i'm not sure i get a vote for the silvercan class but +1 from me if it counts.

I have a brandnew silvercan but should have bought the 1060 instead of a TBLE esc...and i only have 2s.

Still, I reckon the Novafox would give it a nudge

+1 from me.

I got one of the SkyRC GPS meters a couple weeks ago, just haven't had a chance to run any cars with it yet. I know I won't be anywhere near the fastest, but it'll be interesting to see how far off the bottom I sit. :D

I also like the idea of only 1 car per person in the top 10...like the Street Outlaws. Gives people a bit more incentive to 'make the list'

Do I still have to officially vote? 🤔

Vote silver can from me 👍

Does my 26.1 mph boomerang entry count? 1060,silver can, 3s.

Let me know what page it's on and I'll add it to the new Silver Can Category.... same goes to Mad Iventor with his entry too please :)

I gave it a quick test with 6v connected directly to it, seems a bit tired :)

I'll take you up on the offer Jason...PM your Paypal at some point and let me know how much to chuck your way. ;)

Looking forward to seeing the silver can entries. I would have suggested limiting it to 2s or equivalent although I can't wait to see @MadInventor put 24 volts through one :D.

I also have a few lying around if anyone is stuck.

I've been busy:

20170815_133145

I'm not very happy with the Cap pack install as I had tried to fit the Castle pack but It was a total nightmare so I gave up and slapped in an Abisma pack I had in the stores.   I didn't want to go at the wires again so the wiring isn't ideal, I'll probably re-attack when the rage has worn off in a day or two!  I had lust spent the previous hour looking for a tiny part which has remained elusive

Now I need to cut out and prep the body shell for paint, my least favourite job by a long long way..........  meh
