I love that Celica B)  What tyres did you go for?

According to my man math it should be good for over 60Mph

I decided to follow your advice and ordered some Contact sponge touring car tires/wheels for better control. The back of the car is wider than the front, (notice the offset wheels on there right now) so I am wondering if something like F104 sponge wheels would fit in the wheel wells.

It's definitely the way to go and I'm not sure about the F104's tyres but I think you would need an adaptor to fit them. The foams don't last long and other than cosmetically I doubt that they would make much difference.  For info I had been using 37sh and have just tried the 42sh, they seem to be holding up better and I haven't noticed any loss of grip.

I would just run a wider hexhub at the back (maybe a 6mm and a spacer) with the 30mm foam tyre to try and fill the arch a little better.

Yeah, I had a bit of reading to do on shore ratings when choosing the foam tires as I knew nothing about them. I went with 30mm / 37sh for a first try and figured I could try a different shore rating on the next set. The idea with the F104 wheels would have been mostly cosmetic, and just trying to mimic the original look of the car while having the ability to use foam tires. If you look at the pic on the Tamiya site, the back wheels are wider with a bit more offset than the fronts.

Update to the Sand Master Speed.

Road tyres...29t Pinion (The rest is the same)

74km/h.. 45.98mph

I ran it at the weekend and got 72kph on a 2600mah 3s...Jason was holding the #2 spot on the non Tamiya's with 72.2, so me and the lad went over this evening with a bigger fully charged 3s to squeeze a little more haha. I think that puts me #2 on all but the RWD list!

It didn't end well though, let the boy have a go and he went flat out in to the only post in the car park! Smashed Servo, Cracked chassis and an 11yr old feeling a little guilty!  Although the speed he hit the post I'm surprised it didn't vaporise!

You did well to get air under the front wheels with those tyres, I find them fairly useless on tarmac tbh, ended up using the stock wheels/tyres on the dark impact.

Shame about the wee nudge, hoping spares aren't too expensive!

I've managed to fix it...bit of Epoxy and an Acoms Servo (fits the adapter). Luckily most of the stuff is ball connectors...so they just popped off rather than snapping.

The tyre's are useless...you need to do a few burnouts to get them really hot and then they grip up. It only started lifting the front wheels after a few laps of the car park and some standing starts :)

I'm really surprised at how easy it is to control with the shocking front camber and the 'Stance'...I got some good close fast passes last night, didn;t come out very well as I didn't have my usual Camera set up, the first speed run was not even in view lol, lucky I made a second run!!!

I do have an increased pinion gear on my No3 in the Non Tamiya list RC ... from 17t to 23... those are the only two options for it.... hoping to one day knock Phil back down to 3rd spot - where he belongs ;p

Fighting Talk :)

I've got some Big 2.2 Dirt Hawgs and rims somewhere, that may give me a few more speed tokens

I broke down and ordered another GPS. The TT02B clocked 98 KPH on a test run at lunch today.  Once I get 100 KPH on video I'll be posting!  I don't know how much more I can squeeze out of the buggy version. Its on the brink of out of control at this speed even with quite a bit of weight on the front.

An update on my Celica TT02R RWD. A 30mm foam tire doesn't fit the rear of a TT02 with narrow track. It rubs on the chassis tub. I had the parts to give it a wide track, but used them on a TT02B before I knew I would need them here. (TT02R does not have the option for a wide track due to the aluminum uprights it comes with, and does not come with the parts to make it a wide track. Easily overcome by using plastic uprights.) I ordered more parts to make the wide track so I can fit the 30mm tires in the back. While waiting for them to arrive, I put 26mm foam tires on the rear and did some test runs. I am sorting out traction issues at the moment. I can ease into the trigger and get the car mostly up to speed, but after that it breaks grip and spins the wheels like crazy no matter how soft I ease into the trigger. My best test run was 37mph before it lost grip, spun out, and I gave up for the day. I think my traction problem can be solved with a wider tire in the back and locking the rear axle. Currently, I have really thick grease in the rear, but it's no help.

A comedy entry today...took the TA04 out on 30mm's and a bigger pinion.....but the steering was all over the place, and had signal issues, so called it a day.

Now....I couldn't leave this fine weekend without a run.

Custom Barbie Jeep (Grasshopper running gear)

16 Turn Brushed, 2s lipo 16t Pinion.

I think the motors had it as the last time used it, it get really really hot and smokey! I'd of expected a bit more speed. But here she is the little minx :)

23 km/h (14.3mph)

Just started my record attempt car. All I need now is a 16S battery.😂

Nice. What are you putting in it besides a 16S battery?

I did more testing with my RWD Celica. Nimh isn't going to be too competitive. Currently researching 2S and 3S.

If you run Nimh, you can start at category just for that, you'll be top! 👍

Keep checking they come in and out of stock and it's by far the best bang for buck I've found.  I have the 4500Mah version which powered the TRF on it's record run :)

They are also sold as Giant Power so have a search and you may find them for sale in the US.  When speed running always go for the biggest capacity highest constant discharge possible, it will make a huge difference.

Oh and nice run bud, really looking forward to seeing it when it's lipo powered.

@Granddad Stinky if your serious about going for the record don't bother with the TA02 get yourself a nice TA05.

I’ll engineer the speed into it. The milling attachment for my little lathe will be here soon.

My mate works in a place with a small wind tunnel, this will be built, not put together. 😂

Ha, I forgot about the email notification. I edited the post because I found them on another site; Aliexpress.

@Granddad Stinky Are you going for the Custom Modified Tamiya RC class?

Not quite sure yet. I’ll make it an entry level car as a control speed. It’ll probably change class as a work on it. Ground effect suspension arms anyone?
