Spektrum limited steering in one direction

Recommended Posts

Hey gang, I was hoping someone here might have a suggestion before I send the receiver back as defective.  I have a brand new Spektrum SRS4210 that I'm binding to a DX4C transmitter.  When I bind it, the servo (also new) throw both left and right is full.  When I remove the bind plug the throw is full.  Once I power down, and then back up, the throw to the right is only 1/2.  I have rebound a number of times, and I have bound the receiver to a DX2C as well with the same results.  I hate to send the receiver back as defective because that'll be a ton of work to take it out but worse yet my son will miss the opening race of the Winter series.  Any suggestions?

And, what is the go with the second bind plug??

I can see another plug in the receiver that has two black wires coming from the negative and signal pins..????

Also, have you tried binding the receiver to the transmitter with only the power supply (battery or ESC) and bind connected.. i.e. with no servo, transponder or other equipment connected..??

I have checked and double checked that all end points and trims are zeroed out.

The 2nd bind plug is inserted to disable the AVC.  However, I have tried to do the setup both with and without the AVC disable 2nd bind plug with no change in result.  In fact, I even reset the binding channel just to be on the safe side.  I've also tried binding with the AVC on the transmitter set to both Active and to Inhibited with no change in result.

I've not tried to bind only the receiver with nothing other than power connected.  I have tried binding it with the BEC and servo, and I've tried with the BEC, servo, and ESC which no change in result.

OK, I appear to have it sorted.  I was going through the calibration process WAY too quickly after binding the transmitter to the receiver.

My setup

  • Bind plug inserted into "Disable Port"
  • Bind plug inserted into "Bind/Battery Port"
  • MyLaps transponder inserted into AUX 2 port
  • Castle 10A BEC inserted into AUX 1 Port
  • Castle Mamba Max Pro ESC (with BEC lead removed from plug) inserted into Throttle Port
  • Savox SC-1267 mg inserted into Steering Port

Binding and Calibrating are separate steps that must be completed in succession and done correctly, at the right pace for the system to work properly!  It's not hard, but the timing is important.  Go too fast and your steering or throttle won't get full travel.

Binding

  1. Power on the Tx
  2. Power up the BEC
  3. Wait for the Rx LED to fast blink
  4. Enter Bind mode on the Tx
  5. Wait for the Rx LED to go out and then come back on solid.

Calibrating

  1. Pull throttle trigger to full and hold, wait for light to go out
  2. Release the throttle and the LED comes back on
  3. Push to break to full and hold, wait for the light to go out
  4. Release the brake and the LED comes back on
  5. Hold full RIGHT steering for a second...
  6. Hold full LEFT steering for a second...
  7. Return to center steering and the Rx LED will blink twice
  8. LED then turns solid and calibration is done

This video is the one that finally made it click for me.  The binding/calibration starts at like 2:40
