One thing I have always appreciated about tamiya is that the fast racing or high end bashing tamiya kits which have carbon/frp chassis parts, oil dampers, slipper clutches and adjustable turnbuckles have always been disproportionately expensive compared to the alternative brands.

Regular kits are cheap enough though but never attain the same performance of say an Hpi flux.

I've always found the opposite true. If you look at the street prices of, say, a TRF419X then it's not that far off of from something like an Xray T4 '17 or Yokomo BD7. In fact, it's even cheaper than a Serpent 411 or an Awesomatix A800. From memory, when the TRF102 was released it was actually cheaper than the competition.

I'll be honest I have no idea in terms of off-road, though.

tamiya ESC at moment and Speed Passion V3.0 Competition BL 8.5T

i don't have LiPo fitted yet though

I fitted the bigger spur gear but it was slower off the line (obviously) and not as fun

Lipo will make a big difference.

Bigger spur will give acceleration, not speed.

You'll probably cause the ESC to over heat with that motor after a while of running.

I used the 10.5T in my FF03 and it would shut down after a few minutes of track use with the standard ESC.

Butler that's a great Avatar!

Tamiya's aren't built for speed so they can't be compared to these other cars ;p

Erm,my 419X and 503x seem to do perfectly ok at the track. Tamiya makes cars for all types of drivers etc.

I run a vaterra v100 with an 11,300kv brushless and a 120a turbo esc.

The esc was from hobbyking and the motor is an Orion vortex model. its unbelievably quick n 2s, i have a 3s battery but i daren't try it.

Here it is coming out of winter hybernation.

The only upgrades needed to the drive train was an ally prop shaft, adjustable camber, alloy steeroing assembly, alloy adjustable shocks and alloy hubs. Touch wood, its been faultless
