Truck meets

Hello.

I am thinking about buying a Tamiya R/C truck, if I do I will add the MFU so my investment will be £500-£600.

Having built many of the cars, and 3 tanks, I know the pleasure that is obtained from the build. 

But with a truck once its built its fine to run it around the house a few times, and that can get boring, I don't want to end up on a shelf covered in layers of dust.

So my question is who uses theirs, do owners meet up and if so where?

I'm a member of South West RC Truckers and although their FB page is a bit out of date the forum is still going, it's a niche interest site so doesn't have lots of action like Tamiyaclub.  Meets are last Sunday of every month and it's much more fun to run around a proper layout than it is to reverse around your own lounge  newcomers are always welcome, although it's a long way from Essex!

I've also been to the Dorset & Hamps club, another friendly club that meets regularly and welcomes visitors from outside the area

How far is it from Essex to Yate, Bristol, and how long would it take to drive there??

Hi Backlash, thanks for all the Face Book links, although I am on here as EssexBill I have now relocated to Derbyshire.

Interesting question.  The most direct route is 159 miles (from central Essex) and according to Google Maps, can be done in two and a half hours assuming no traffic, although I'd want to allow another hour, especially on the return journey, as the London jetset who retire to the Westcountry for the weekend will be trying to get back in before Monday morning.

Yate is actually very convenient for anyone coming from the London area as it's right off the M4.  The rest of the Westcountry can take longer to navigate, as once you're off the motorway you're onto trunk roads that are forced through small villages.  Sometimes I swear I could walk to places faster than I could drive there

Might be worth a trip up the M1 to RC Model Shop Direct, I've only been once but they had a great track with loads of truck stuff going on.

Plenty of trucks to watch and  nice people who were happy to talk about the hobby.
