I picked up a very badly looked after hornet, Is it possible to run the original recover from the main battery rather than the separate battery pack?

 Reciever?? short answer mostly yes.

have a look on the receiver. does it say BEC?? If so it has battery elimination circuit.  ( happy to accept 7.2 volts )

some msc had a diode and reciever plug exactly for that purpose.

It's so old, it is a Santa radio gear with 1 2 B on the receiver, but I just tried it and it works, how long for I don't know

I used to solder diodes to the msc  (to drop the voltage down to 6v) before BEC, so even none bec can be run without extra receiver batteries.

The only issue I found was the servos stopped working before the motor did, so you'd have to chase the car, only walking pace though, so didn't take much chasing.
