For the WBO I need to build some custom chassis plates. Carbon is out of my price range for practicing but GRP looks like it will do the job.

Has anyone experience of working with this? Is 2.4mm thick enough or do I need 3mm?

I do flat roofing and boats using GRP and in my experience 3mm is no why thick enough, I would say at least twice that, even then you probably need plenty of reinforced. But for practicing on, yeah why not.

Hi mate.

I have made a few carbon chassis up in the past.

A tip would be to make a few test plates up using 80 thou plasticard. It's easy to work with and strong enough.

Also 3mm is fine. GRP board is very strong.

A plasticard template sounds like a good idea. And yes, 3mm GRP should be plenty strong enough for the final item. My F103 chassis is GRP, and it has survived my bumbling introduction to track racing with no damage despite some pretty hefty collisions.
