Hi guys, so as some of you know I came across a Blackfoot Xtreme that is in pretty great shape albeit filthy and I intend to rebuild and modify it....

So here's the plans that I have now.

Convert to a 4X4

longer shocks

refinish body to original glory

That's it that i know of and am open to suggestions and I will be asking lots of questions as I know there are guys on here who have worked on these guys too (main reason I went looking for one).

For now I'll list the starting point........... this is what I got in the mail...

I will post pics of my progress now, But my 1st question for those who are running dual motors................ what ESC are you guys using?? I was thinking of using the TEU106BK but see that it only has a 25T motor limit and I would at least like to run 19Ts so any suggestions on that would be great!!!

On a side note the teu101bk that is pictured works great and the motor looked pretty much new so theyve been cleaned off and stored for another vehicle.

I'll be updating the thread as I progress and again thanks in advance for all the help.

Just go brushless, this gearbox can handle it....  I have a 10.5T in mine.  This chassis is really stable if done right.  These are the things you want to do.

1. Upgraded Shock tower mounts
2. Upgraded oil filled shocks
3. Brushless power!

Here's a link to my build. -

I have a hobbywing wp 860 esc in mine, duel motor, waterproof and Lipo compatible.  As said if you stick with brushed motor you will be limited with chose with a 4x4 conversion.   I am still running silver cans in mine, although when I started building it, the decision was made to aim for drive anywhere and up anything ability rather that speed.  In that respect the silver cans are probably to quick

These are great fun and so diverse. Like you probably know they can be easily changed to 4wd, rwd, rwd, front steer to rear steer to all wheel steering. My monster beetle bodied wt01 is rear wheel drive so unfortunately I'm not up on the best esc for dual motors but you did mention fitting larger shocks. I did this with mine too. The GPM shock towers allow you to fit much larger ones. They tend to be listed under under wild dagger parts if you do a search. When I put these on I fit some 95mm fasttrax shocks and what a difference! Performed much better and looked great too. A member called nitomor has done so much to the wt01 chassis he'll be able to advise on most things.  @Nitomor

Great project. Look forward to seeing it progress. :)

This set up with 3s lipo (in spec for the 860) is a quick as the chassis can really handle even with the GPM towers and 95mm dampers.

It is also blinding value.

You can make them quicker but as I found out you won't get more enjoyment out of it as it will just end up on its back all the time.

If you're going to stick with brushed and dual motor then definitely look into the Hobbywing WP 860.  I just stock that esc into the Super Clod that I'm building.

Ok so I broke down and ordered the ESC, I will probably run 19 or 21t motors on this.

Also on order-

bearings

extra gearbox,

dogbones,

shock towers (2 sets since i ordered blue before Nobbi posted a link to black ones).

E parts tree X2

mad bison b parts (supposed to be reinforced).

I will be keeping it to front wheel steering only for the moment and will be using a KO PROPO PDS-2511 ICS

Currently Im sanding down the body to get it ready for paint (Once I go to the hobby store and get paint). but it seems to be coming along nicely so far.... here are pics of the progress.

Also the tires have a nice white coating on them after their wash....... think armoral or maybe a little silicon will clean that off?

Update, My Mad Bison parts order was cancelled (apparently they didnt have any in stock).....  but the rear gearbox came in and even though my order of bearings hasn't arrived I have added ball bearings in both gearboxes at the expense of all the front wheels on my display shelves are bearingless (Minus the lunchbox as it has yellow shielded bearings) and the body is fully sanded and ready for paint (should be hitting up my not so local hobby store this week).

Things I need to order next are as follows...

C parts tree X2

GPM steel outdrive pieces (stock ones seem to be 7 for a pair shipped...... gpm steel pieces are 8 shipped)

and I need to get the last axle piece where the wheels bolt on (Anyone have any spare ones they want to let go??)

aluminum steering horn for my hi torque servo saver parts since the Mad Bison parts are not available.

I also snapped a pic of how I think I am going to install the ESC onto the chassis..... I want to keep the COG as low as possible and as clean as possible and since the Quicrun seems to be the same dimensions as the TBLE02S I test fitted one with the fan installed and it seems to be ok. Thoughts?

Nice build, :)

The 860 is an excellent esc. Just 2 points of note, it doesn't come with a battery connector (modelsport offer a fitting service but they did a lame job on mine and I ended up having to redo them with new connectors disappointingly) and unlike the 1060, it does come with an additonal cooling fan. The fan can be fitted or not but I suspect it should be fitted to handle the advertised specs. I don't think it would fit in the location suggested to fit it, though I agree it does look really neat there. Another idea for you is a TT02 receiver box, great for waterproofing your receiver for £6.

Looks cool and makes lost clips in long grass a thing of the past

Hah had 2 sets on order for my TL01, and MF01x but they never arrived and just got refunded....... now I need 3 :) they are on the list.

that looks awesome!! think you can you me the height of the ESC with fan installed? The HW esc is all of about 1mm taller than the Tamiya, and I have the cooling fan on my Tamiya ESC so it will be close! And no worries about the batt connector....... I have a ton of them in my parts boxes.

40mm pretty much spot on...

Dang!!! Thanks for checking for me looks like its about 6.35mm taller than the TBLE esc........... bummer its such a waste of space.... maybe the EX will go down there.

Thank you so much for checking for me!!

The fan is smaller than the esc on plan, it looks like you could possibly fit the esc there and just cut out an aperture in the plate above for the fan to protrude through!

With regards to the rx, I have mounted one in a redundant servo case before, as in the pic below, the servo on the left actually contains the rx which keeps things neat.

You can also use a low profile servo for the steering which really keeps things neat and fits in with your low CoG ethos...

thats pretty slick with the rx..... Ill figure something out when  the ESC comes in........... along with everything else (95% of ordered parts are from overseas :( )

Great project!

Thanks.... for some reason I was never fond of these till I started looking at them closer on the TC site.......... honestly it's kinda how my love the the TL01 grew..... hated it and now I am quite fond of them... theyre just like these guys.... tough and a blast to drive (the driving part is an assumption right now ;) ).

Ok, so 1 part came in................. the ESC. BUT the battery speed changer thingies that i ordered over a month ago finally showed up and I cant use it in my MF01X Jimny as it will scratch against the body so it's going on the Blackfoot..... Also some lightweight kingpins that I ordered for my Dump truck with TL01LA arms wont fit as they're for the non-LA arms.... these are also going on the Blackfoot now too.

Here's a pic of how the electronics are being installed........ see if you can spot the RX ;)

If your LiPo is too long then two CVA spacer leftovers and longer screws space out the quick changer thing without looking out of place.

It is great when upgrades get moved and used when they do not fit the original purpose (or you forget why you ordered them in my case.

the lipo fits perfectly :)

got the body painted.......... Tamiya semi gloss black.... i only did two coats so will sand it down with 1500grit and then give it another coat or two.

Update......

This guy is slowly coming along.... Shock towers came in... the black ones :) got them installed and am thinking of changing the hardware as i saw someone posted them with black hex screws just need to know where they got them from as I like that look much better than these cheapy stainless ones.

Also got the body painted......... honestly it's still not 100% as you can still see some hairline scratches from the sanding and I am out of Tamiya semi gloss black to add more coats, so until i make it back to the LHS it will stay this way.

So this is odd............ got in the Blue shock towers I ordered before the black ones and they come with black hex hardware vs the stainless crap the black ones came with..... SCORE for me.... the blue ones might make their way onto the Baja Champ if I ever decide to build it.... Oh and in the middle of the pic are my steel out drives!
