Hi guys. So I'll be getting the lunch box for christmas and I've decided to go about it in two ways. I'm going to have the shelf version which is going to be pure box art and stay on the shelf (unscratched) and I'm going to have another version which is going to have a runner body, different livery, different colour wheels (that I've got in my spares) and I was thinking of a different tyre.

As anyone any good recommendations for an alternative tyre for the lunch box rims? Something a bit different than the usual lug pattern but which are suitable for most types of terrain. Feel free to post any pics or links. :)

There are some interesting choices in ebay from a Chinese seller. Knobbies, slicks, paddles...

My usual move is to go 2.2 and go that route. You've seen my black edition with the discontinued G Hawgs.

I have a set of Pro Line Dirt Paws on the shelf as well. They're a spike tire  but the spikes themselves are square.

Panther paddles and ribs are another option in my spares.

You've got a nice selection for your lunch box. Looks like you've got all types of terrain covered for it. I did notice the chinese tyres too. I really like the look of the chunky  knobbly style one. The slicks would be interesting in a bad way, may be no traction with those.

I think you're right that 2.2 wheels would be the easier route for tyre choice. I've got a nice set of spare lunchie rims waiting for some tyres though. They do a similar tyre to the standard lud pattern but with spikes. These tend to be twice as expensive than the standard ones though which is expensive for a few spikes on the tyre.

I have those WR02 pin spikes on my Hornet on montero rims same as lb. They are much softer than the lb tyres and seems to grip a lot better on grass.

One of the nicest tires ever made for the Lunchbox are the Claw Dawg tires that IMEX made some years ago. Not easy nor cheap to find nowadays, but if you come across a set of these don't pass 'em. Here's a picture of a set I've sold last month mounted on white stock Pajero Wheelie/Lunchbox wheels.

I noticed that the spiked version did say soft too so if I can't find any others I might have to bute the bullet in a set of  those. Nice to know they are actually grippier too.

Love the look of those tyres mongoose. I think I'd have some of those in a second if a set popped up. Very nice!

I found the WR-02 tyres were cheaper than the Lunchbox ones when Banzai was alive. Not tried to buy much since they are gone so no idea of real prices.

I find the spike version grip quite well but how much grip do you need on a Lunchy? It will just flip or roll with more grip

Those spiked ones look good on your hornet nito. I saw a set of four on ebay for £15. It must have been a one off because it seems that's the price for just 2 everywhere else. Can't find the original listing now .

Those tyres look good emory. I've heard the originals aren't very grippy (not tried them myself). I bet these would be much better.

One of the issues you'll encounter is if you go with too large of a diameter of tire, the wheelie bar doesn't contact the ground like it should and your vehicle will be flipping over backwards.  This is what happened with my runner that has Marui Big Bear wheels and tires

I went with a set of Imex claw dawgs on 2.2's for all of my pumpkins

Nice selection of wheels and tyres mastino and shodog. You're right too shodog. I don't want to go too big with the tyres. One reason I'm after some more is that I've got a spare set of wheels so fancied something a bit different than the standard ones. Shame they're not the 2.2 size, the dhoice woild be huge then. Are the chrome and green pumpkins for the shelf? They look immaculate. I wouldn't want to scuff those shells. The imex claw dogs are my favourite so far.

My issue with the stock LB tires is that it's a 2wd. To me, a 2wd truck shouldn't have chevrons. The main reason I'm running the G Hawgs on my Black Edition is because of that.

Proline mashers are excellent tires for the LB and MB but I feel the stock WR02 tires from the heavy dump truck keep the look and feel of the lunchbox while providing a huge step up in grip and performance.

The tires from the dump are considerably softer and when coupled with foam inserts makes for a great cheap replacement tire. One word of caution. As you already know the LB is top heavy when running the stock hard plastic shell. With the softer compound these tires don't slide around as much and the LB can become tippy on some surfaces. The added forward grip is also enough to flip the truck on its back on concrete.  Obviously these are issues anytime you go to a stickier tire but I just wanted to throw them out there.

the good news is that these tires come up pretty often on EBay for cheap.   I was lucky enough to get a new set of 4 off a part out for $18.99 with free shipping a few months back so it's a cheap upgrade

Thats a great deal racer. A set of four of those tyres came up on ebay at about £15 about a month ago but since then the listings have been about the same price for a pair. There's no rush so I'll keep my eye out for a full set. I've got some tyre sponges so as soon as they do I'm good to go.
