I’ve had this kit lying around for a couple of months after seeing it at a price I couldn’t refuse (it seems to be rare now?). At the time I was looking for a new DT-02 chassis to do my own Astute Gator after seeing other members excellent versions. I spent a small fortune on recreating my version what with the body, wing, stickers (MCI), wheels, tyres, yellow CVA’s, tie rods, anti-roll bars – the list goes on  – all NIP parts where I could find them. Then I just stuck it at the back of a high shelf as it wasn’t really inspiring me, probably because I was just copying someone else’s idea I recon.

The Street Rover body and driver just sat in the box un-started….

Anyway here’s a few shots of it before I turn it back into what it started as but never became – If you see what I mean!!

The pre painted candy green body looks great , so 70’s – however I’m not sold on the box art stickers so I’ll be making some adjustments to the look.

First step was to mask up some racing stripes Cobra style, I used Tamiya 10mm and 18mm masking tape to lay them out and was pleasantly surprised to find that a 10mm gap with two 18mm stripes fit perfectly between the two cut-outs for the front shock tower. I’m sure there’s someone thinking “why didn’t you fill the holes?” Well, I thought about it and decided not to as this would involve filling and sanding and a whole lot more work and I just can’t be bothered – too many other unfinished projects that suffered from being too complicated or labour intensive sat around already L

Next job is to mask off the body to spray the cockpit matt black, I’m sure if I was cleaver then I could have done all my masking in a smarter order! Going through tape like crazy!

Things to do:

Paint interior

Paint seats

Paint dash

Modify lights

Paint lights

Fill roll bar

Paint roll bar

Paint driver

Cheers, I thought so too - looks great in sunlight :)

the chassis will have the few mods that are already fitted, anti roll bars and adjustable suspension links - I've already got a fully hopped up DT-02 so there's nowhere for these to go anyway..

What are your most worthwhile upgrades for your DT02 chassis?

Great looking shell.

Thanks! With a bit of luck I'll find some time this evening for a bit more progress.

Ball diff made the most difference to my other DT-02, I run a GT tuned motor in that one and it helps to keep it in a straight line when you're on the beans :)

I wasn't very impressed with how the lights looked or were made :( They had loads of flash to clean up and the chrome just didn't look good at all so I sanded them back and sprayed them black. Also the covers I thought looked a bit more rock crawler than dune buggy so I'll be leaving them off. I think the black backs make them look more like the classic Cibie lights anyway :)

So, big ones on the outside or small ones?

Finally got round to taking some pictures of the finished article - I decided not to go with the working lights, maybe a future project.
