My 80's hex drives gave up this morning and ruined my fun! What are my options with regards to replacement? I know I can buy the frog dogbone kit but is not a cheap fix :/

Can I buy Re-Re Monster Beetle drive cups, dogbones and outer drive cups and fit them?

Thanks :)

I replaced the hex shafts on my MB with the CVJ's from the re re beetle, and in truth they were useless, they kept popping out.  in the end I junked them and replaced them with the solid dogbones from the Frog.

get a MIP ball diff and frog universal shafts and you are set.

I would like to do something like this but the Frog universal set is (IMO) very expensive...if I start using the car 500% more than I use it now, I might need them

I have my new hex drives now from @Tamiyabigstuff so hopefully fitting them tonight (assuming my 1:1 project passes the MOT!)

actually the MIP ball diff is expensive  compared to the Frog Unis that can be found at the evilbay for about $25.

the issues with the MB gearbox etc has been discussed extensively here at TC and the (only) solution for it is the ball diff with the uni shafts.

Of course it always depends how much you use/abuse the car, but generally the MB is prone to broken gearboxes.

good luck with the new hex drives !!

So far so good with my standard diff, I am using the support plates supplied by a chap on here which seem to be doing the job just fine right now.

I am in the UK where the Frog universals are not cheap, if they where £25 I would have bought them but cheapest I could find the other day was £43.

All fixed now and ready for a run tomorrow, the next time they go I will upgrade to the Frog units no doubt :)

Should have listened to everyone's advice! New set of hex drives wore out in one run. Bought some Frog Uni's - now working great!
