Just recently got a Terra crusher...decided to race a teenager in a go ped type thing, blew his doors off, went to turn around and teen hit my terra....go ped went one direction, teen went another, terra was flattened, well the body was. Everyone was ok, teen had a helmet.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

When I was at a race many years ago, we were heading down the straight, fully blast, side wall falls down. That created a ramp, two cars hit it(not me). One was half on half off and wound up cartwheeling down the rest of the straight and over the berm. Other one caught massive air and crowned the announcer! He was ok but the mic and computer he was at were toasted. Car was pretty messed up!

I just got my SS, was a teenager and it was Christmas day. First run. Goin great, went to make a turn on the street and didn't notice the car coming. SQUISH! There goes my SS in a few pieces! Oh man, was I bawling! Felt like an idoit on top of that.

_________________________________________________________________

Same SS, got it back up and running a couple weeks later, racing a friend on a bike and the speed controller smoked, car came to a sudden stop but the guy on the bike didn't! There goes another body!!!

ACK!

What do you all have?

First run out with the brand new Frog (without body, as it was being painted), and what do I do but think "I wonder how far the transmitter range is?" So little MSC powered Frog hurtles off down the street until it ran out of range... onto the road... and kept going... and going... and going! Ran after it, found it had gone about 100M, hit the kerb at the end of the street and flipped over. Less than a minute, and I had broken the steering horn!

Weeks later, driving along in my Frog with tuned motor, didn't see the slow-moving cyclist rounding the corner. I swerved, cyclist swerved the **** same way! Frog went under his front wheel at 40kph, became an instant wheel chock and wedged under the front wheel, stopping the cycling dead. No damage to the Frog other than a bent antenna! Tough little car.

In 1988 I bought my first hobby level RC vehicle. I purchased a Tamiya Lunchbox. Finally got it assembled and working. Too fast to use indoors, so I went outside. Body was still white virgin plastic. I was using the stock mechanical speed control and a stick transmitter. All was well. I went screaming up the street and I quickly approached a parked car. I pulled the stick back to slow it down, but went too far, which put it into reverse. It did a quick 180 degree turn, and continued heading for the parked car, but now in reverse! WHAM! I smacked the underside of his chassis. No damage to his car, but gave my new truck permanent body scars.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Last week, I was finishing the assembly of my new TXT-1. I've built and raced a lot of RC vehicles since the first story. Old pro now, you know? Yea right. I was building the shocks. Filled the last one with oil, pulled the piston down to cycle the bubbles out of the oil. When I tried pushing it back up, it stuck a little. I pushed a little harder and SQUIRT! The oil suddenly disappeared. A couple of seconds later, it dripped onto the assembly manual, all over my hands, and in my hair. Yuk! The slug of oil had hit the ceiling and was now dripping all over me and my workbench. Got it all cleaned up and finally finished the assembly. No pemanent mark on the painted ceiling luckily. [:I]

This was just days ago. I was jsut watching TV, one of the few moments I don't have a transmitter or screwdriver in my hands. I suddenly heared a short whirring noise, that sounded like a electric RC car. The sound was obivously a M-01, you recognise that out of thousands... [;)] I ran to the dinner table and I sound out my Mini was parked on the other side of the table all of a sudden... Me very puzzled looking, asked around is someone moved the car. Then I removed the body and found out I still had the battery connected as few hours after running... [8)]

OHHHH, this one comes to mind now... [:I] This is from my very early days (daze?), when I ran my Fighter Buggy so much. We were on holiday with our entire family (uncles, grandma, grandpa, the whole bunch [;)] ) And I was showing off my RC car. Then my big brother yelled: "Look, a car! a car! [:o] " I though he was yelling to the crowd that gathered and said: "Yeah, this is a cool car alright! [8D]" My bro yelled again: "NO, Sjoerd, NO! A car!" I said "Man, what are you yellin... [?] "

Then I saw a ral car comming up the lane and it ran over my prized Fighter Buggy. Me swearing at my bro: "Why didn't you warn me! [:(!]" When the driver of the car (the one with the biggest car [;)] ) went ahead so that the Fihter Buggy would come out at the back, there was no Fighter Buggy! I almost got a heart attack... I looked under the 1:1 car and I saw the damned thing stuck behind the exhaust. This story had a lucky ending but it does explain why the driver figure didn't want to be mounted in the car... [:P]

Funniest experience I have had was when my friend got a lunchbox for his birthday, all built and ready to run. We went to the local open air public car park near where he lived to take it for a run.

He had run it for about 5 minutes and managed to roll it about 15 meters from where we were. As we are standing there chuckling away (kids never appreciate the damage done to the paint) a tramp comes from out of nowhere pics it up and runs off with it.

So we go back to the friends house to tell his Dad, we go out in the car looking for the tramp, no sign of the tramp but about half a mile down the road from the car park sitting on the wall was the lunch box, all complete, no damage (except the scratches on the roof which my friend had inflicted).

I did that once on purpose, overtook a slow real pickup with my tuned Hornet from under it [:0], the guy almost got a heart attack when he saw something getting in front of him from under his car, luckily the Hornet went straight as I couldnt see it under the car and the guy didnt steer, man we were mad back then... I remember when I first got my new Madcap. Me and 3 of my friends went to the local track. I had my Madcap, one friend had a Fox, another friend had an Astute, and my third friend didn't have a car. So I lent him my Lunchbox! Have you ever seen a Lunchbox on a racetrack?? Funny stuff. My friend could not control it because of the wheelie popping action. Needless to say, Tamiya cars were not very welcome at the local track, because all of the racers used RC10s and JRX2s. Well, when it came time to race, they wouldn't let my friend use the Lunchbox, so he sat the out of the race, and was riding the Lunchbox along the side of the track as the race was going on. He lost control of the Lunchbox, and it hopped over the berm, and onto the track and made 3 cars crash into eachother. He was not welcomed back to that track and it took some time for the racers to forgive me for bringing him there! haha. Oh, and my Lunchbox had no damage to it at all!

Hi all,

got somethings too, not sure if you find it funny, since the comic of situations is often hard to figure out for people who weren't there.

First off all the beginners main fault: Two guys (my friend and me) two cars (my Grasshopper and his Super Sabre). We were standing back to back, so we couldn't see neither the partner nor the car. I was running my car uphill, and my friend vice versa. And we managed to reach the same place on the street with our cars at the same time with max throttle. Well the Grasshopper won, the Sabre had a broken knuckle. I remember an article in the RCCA at about the same time (1988) where a Dr. Go Rilla gave a Hornet a hard time. And I could confirm that the 'Hopper and Hornet were bulletproof!

The same Grasshopper received a Reedy pink dot motor one day, and I found out that the model became uncontrollable (did I take the wrong pinion?). I topped it with mounting Pumpkin wheels/tyres on it (The Mad Bull was never really new for me!). I had a hard time avoiding any major problems between the buggy and its environment, crossing under several parked cars. It outran most life size cars on the street! And that with hardware from the late eighties! At this point I began to think about cutting down with my tuning-mania.

R/C's and Dogs? Well, yes, you may have fun. We (my son and me) were running my Pumpkin on a parking lot, when two young pubs came and were playing and irritating my son (one dog was jumping at him). I took the radio and the Pumpkin started to join the game with the two pubs. They liked it, until the Pumpkin began wheelies onto them. They ran as if the devil was behind them.

Another dog-tale happened between a shepperd dog and my Juggernaut (white due to an unpainted body). The dog was laying under a tree and was watching my truck (thought it was a sheep?), and when the truck moved away, the dog jumped up, ran to my truck circling around it and began barking at it, until I drove the truck back near to the dogs restplace. Then the dog returned to its tree and layed down. Then I drove the truck away and ... I did that several times. Looked like instinct took the dog over. I talked to its owner, and we had a laugh.

Hope you like these less catastrophic stories.

Regards, Martin

Loved them, especially imagining the Pumkin wheeling suddenly and the dogs running as there is no tommorow... [:D] Propably they thought its a huge mouth opening... LOL

Been there, done that, its not nice stuff to clean out of your hair. Its really surprising how high it goes for such little effort. That reminds me of a film called "Something about Mary" If you have seen it you will know what i mean. Oh, is that hair gel? [^][8)]

When i was 13 My father had built me my first clodbuster. I used and abused it like a 13 year old with a clod should. My neighbor across the street (who was about 18 at the time) had a frog, wild willy1 and a usa-1(the usa1 had been responsible for some damage to my fox's bumper earlier on in the year). He always bragged about his "supped-up willys" and kept his rcs shiney and immaculate. (wish i had enough sense then)

Radio Control Car action had come out with its first article in a series called clodbuster Vs. Usa1.

He took it to heart and the next day a knock on the door led to a invitation to some backyard bashing.

Long story short, i was attacked and the clodbuster was forced to defend himself.

The usa1's front steering arm was bent, the nuts that held the front right wheel on were ripped off, stripping the shaft and sending the tire rolling down our hilly road.

Also caused some sidewall damage (cracks and chips) to his rims.

It was an ugly scene. i can laugh now, i havent seen my old neighbor in a while, i hear hes still around, id like to see what hes got now.

Hmmzz... yes... [xx(] I don't have many cat-astrophic storeis, the cats mostly run away from my cars. Quite a laugh for me... [8D]

My experiences with dogs are more a laugh for the dogs though. They always chased my Fighter Buggy. I ran at full speed and they were running after it as if there was no tommorow. I suddenly steered the Fighter Buggy like so that it quickly went left or right, but the dog couldn't 'steer' as well so it went skidding in a straight line. That gave me some time to escape. Every time that silly dog almost smashed into a wall / 1:1 car / miscelanious obstacle... [:P]

The dogs took revenge though. When I didn't steer just in time or not at a high enough speed, sometimes one of them jump on it and chewed the rear wing. But when the King Blackfoot came, the cats and dogs agreed and ran away togheter... [:D]

I also made a ramp once. Used to jump over it, some kids loved it. Other kids just peed on my car since I got my Fighter Buggy, but that aside. I swear the wing-damage was from the dogs in the previous story, not me landing upside down from my homemade ramp all the time! [:0]

I could even get then crazy enough to volunteer and lay directly behind the ramp!!! That was fun, all those kids found it awesome. Though sometimes I pulled this little joke on them... [:P] I ran onto the ramp slowly, the kids suddenly noticed the car and yell "You're on top of me!" and them I applied full throttle. Somehow they didn't really appreciate it that much... [}:)] Especially when I just hit something that that dog 'dropped'... [B)] LOLOL

When I was a 11 year old kid I once missed the ramp (swear it wasnt deliberately [;)]) and hit the lying guy's head with the Holiday Buggy metal bumper (same as SRB's one), that must have hurt... [:I][8)]

Ouch!!!

Anyway, Jon_watt + I were running an vante and Jon's Vanquish in the local tescos (abandoned) carpark, had the odd little tussle between our cars, and then noticed that the vanquish would steer left fine, but would randomly turn right on its own accord. We thought this could be interference or problems with the motor wires effeting the servo/receiver.

When we actually opened up the car we saw the problem - The battery had escaped from its little compartment, and had demolished the entire chassis![:(] (got photos somewhere) - the only thing holding the chassis together was a zip-tie used to hold the wires neatly! - And I though it was jon's bad driving![:D]

LOL [:P]

That explains why those kids were gone as well when I wanted the big bad King Blackfoot to jump over them... [}:)]

Good for them I didn't have spiked ice-tires fitted... [:o]

Here goes my shot:

About 3 months ago, a really fast BMW Mini was doing ~45Kmh, entering a descending right turn. Because of some unknown factor (maybe the water on the road?[:P]), the Mini flies out of the turn (still at max speed) and hits a dog dropping (yes, dogsh*t!). Fragments of sh*t flew everywhere, including under the lexan, on the hot motor. The substance fried, leaving permanent "tatoos" on the motor can. There goes one of my 11-turn motors... I managed to clean up the rest of the car nicely with Finish Line's 'Ecotech' degreaser[;)]

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday, I was running my newly rebuilt TL01LA inside an empty basketball court. I had just installed a superlight chassis & a front one-way diff. It is (was) capable of above 60Kmh, and very mean while sliding 'doors first' around the court. While trying to outrun my mate's also-fast TL01, My TL01LA crashed max-speed, head-on into a concrete wall, spinned around wildly, hit one of the steel columns...

Chassis, bumper, body, servo-saver, wheels... All bent or broken...

My mate found it quite amusing...[B)]
