My DT03 Neo Fighter

I just had the oddest breakage with my dt03t. In another thread i replaced the gear box case because the screw slot for the 19t pinion broke off. Everything went fine posted pictures and tested it for 2 minutes in the house.

I put it back on the shelf, my wife had moved it a little and must of fell off the shelf onto the carpeting  about 3 ft down. It broke on the new gearbox where the hinge pins go in. So bizarre, i am convinced it had to be a crappy mold from the new gearbox because this car has been through everything with no issues. To fall 3 feet onto carpeting and break there?

Sounds like your good lady might've stomped on it too whilst you weren't looking to cause that damage!

Im planning on getting a little ramp sorted for some light jumping, as it will be onto concrete I will reconsider the gear box bridges then thanks.

Lol we actually heard a little bang from my mancave not knowing what it was. I went to look and saw it broke right away cause the stabilizer was all twisted with a crooked wheel. She took blame right away saying she moved it a little an hour earlier

What is the silver stuff on the front?

I'm guessing it's weight to keep the nose down.

If it is then I was wondering wouldn't the extra weight affect the speed? Would having a slightly less powerful set up, and keeping the nose on the ground be better than having all the extra weight?

Those are car wheel weights stuck on the front wing I used for the speed run, I've retired it from speed runs.. I'll fit a slower motor and run it on 2s nw.

In the meantime, never was a fan of the Neo Fighter look, so I got the Racing Fighter shell and wing and decal set.... and then found I needed some TL01 body posts set (50855) to secure the rear of this different shaped shell.

Question for you guys with dt03. i took my dt03t out today did a roll over and for the second time in a month the gear case broke off where the screw pins go in. Both times on the left side where the motor sits. It is so odd because the stock piece went through war with never an issue until the screw slot for the pinion screw broke off.

Anyone else ever have this issue? Do you think it has to do with me adding the rear turnbuckles? It has only happened since then. I thought originally it was cause of maybe different plastics used. Now i am not sure. I think i am going back to stock set up, no turnbuckles in the rear and no stabilizer.

+1 for the Racing Fighter shell. I keep seeing the Neo Fighter around for ~$10 cheaper but I'd rather spend the extra money for the better looking shell 😉

Very cool - Is that a "GoolRC" brand brushless setup? Been using those and pleasantly surprised by performance/longevity - easy on the wallet too!

It's a relative of the GoolRC family... very generic esc rated for 2-3s lipo and some are even Waterproof! Love how cheap they are, perfect for these lightweight Tamiya's.

Best bargain I've found though are the GoolRC wheel 2.4Ghz radio sets for £18... they are also branded as Austar RC for same price, awesome radios, I have about 4 sets now.

Munchbox, the Racing Fighter is less than the Neo-Fighter at Tower Hobbies. $104.99, plus they always have discount codes.

Jason, you'll love the Racing Fighter, it's a well equipped basher for the price. I'm loving mine.

Cheers Biz, I plan to start some jumping both my DT03 to see how they handle landings..... although my DT02 already broken a stock plastic front C hub so it's been upgrade to aluminium already... thinking I need to fit this to my DT03 aswell now.

Tower has been out of stock of both for a couple months now...

Shoot, I didn't even look at the stock, sorry. All I know is that it went down in price by $15-20 a couple months ago, about 3 weeks after I bought mine. Haha

I really like the Racing Fighter. Greet value for money especially at Tamico. If you break part one could just buy a new one for 60 euros and sell some parts (esc for example)...

Just put an Ezrun 9T 4300KV with 60A ESC combo in my Racing Fighter, with a 19T pinion. Runs fantastic even with the Punch Setting on value 2 (of 9 in total). Motor eats tires though. ;-)

Really liking my Racing Fighter too, although its essentially stock, apart from FRP shock  towers, front and rear. the Neo Fighter is as it came out of the box.

Could this be the one I have a go at brushless with?  Any tips on a good starting setup?  I have experience of Brushless and LiPo s from my RC aircraft..

My brother runs a cheap and cheerful (~$35) Goolrc 9t 4300kv in his ECX Amp and it does pretty well. I clicked him at 34mph with an app on my phone. I was gonna run the same setup with a 19t pinion and slightly oversize tires looking for similar speed. Any idea what yours is now?

I do not have real clue on actual speed with current setup.  Would also expect 30-ish in mph. My Traxxas 2wd VXL is still faster but the Tamiya is more challenging to control  ;-) which is fun...

Planning to fit a Carson 4wd wheel set that I recently purchased tab tamico (white dish). But I am currently awaiting front hex adapters to be able fit the hex front rims. These are 2.2 inch, bigger than standard setup, and will reach higher top speeds.

What app to use on an iPhone to measure top speed? Have seen some video footage in the top speed topic with iPhone measurement but would like to know which app to install.

iPhone I'm not sure.. I'm a big Android user.. my app is simply called Speedometer and has a big 69 mph for the icon...

Are the stock wheels 2.2 or 2.4? I ordered a set of all terrain tires for my build and they're 2.2"x90mm. Wonder if the wheels are 2.4 if they'll still fit with some stretching..

If it was my runs (the mostly night runs), I used 'Speedometer Free' (has a 55 on the icon ) on an iPhone 5s.

However unless you have an old phone, I don't think it's worth the risk. It's an expensive bit of kit to get all scratched up when you do roll it (especially on tarmac).

If you do want to record a few runs, I'd recommend the SkyRC GPS unit that a few of us bought. Compact, simple and better to take the knocks. :)

Finally got my Racing Fighter shell out and painted.... much prefer this to the Neo Fighter.

Not the best paint job but ok for a runner shell, I have more bits to fit and will get to it soon.

This shell has a pretty close wheelbase to the DT03, but no banana, I'll put it back on my WT01

Some new parts mainly for looks, why GPM give e clips for the arms is a mystery, I originally fitted them and then later remembered I could replace them with a nut and screw.

Alloy front and rear upper arms, alloy front bumper and gearbox bridge, followed by alloy front c hubs and uprights.

I'm not worroed about the alloy bending as it looks so nice for now, but I can see that front bumper getting scratched as it bottoms out forst, I might make a little protective cover where it hits the ground first.

That looks awesome with all the colour matched parts! I am thinking about putting the stock front upper arms back on mine to put some stiffness back in for running the truck wheels. They look great though.

I think this looks great too. I know you said on the other thread that there would be fitting issue but I am still tempted. Cut the arches a little narrower to clear the truck wheels and make the wheelbase mismatch less of a problem.

How are those alumium parts holding up?

My guess is that the alloy arms will put a lot of stress on the mounts located at the bulkheads.
I see a good use for the alloy c-hubs as well as rear hubs, since the stock plastic ones suffer from cracks i.e. through material fatigue over time.
The stock nylon steering knuckles are very strong, I've yet to see a broken one.
From theory, a plastic bumper is meant to absorb shock from impact, an alloy bumper will transfer the shock to the bulkhead.
Good choice on the alloy shock mounts. I never broke the plastic ones on my DT-02, but I've seen others breaking theirs.
