I bagged myself a Clod off ebay a couple of weeks ago,... my question is about the steering,..the servo isnt powerful enough to turn any wheels when its stationary (but is fine when the clods in motion),.. is this normal?,.. ive heard of 'high torque' servos on here before,. is fitting one advisable?

Cheers

Actually the biggest problem lies in the weak servo savers of the car and the huge play and elasticity in the steering system, also a high torque servo doesn't help much if you don't change also other things...

i agree, in stock form a high torque servo will just make the top half of the servo savers move if the truck is standing still - unless you lock up the servo savers some how but then you could break something! [;)]

the thing i find very wierd about the clods stock steering is when your going forward it tends to steer using only the back wheels, going in reverse and it only steers using the front wheels [:P]

but some real monster trucks seem to do that, maybe its just tamiya being realistic again [;)]

Assuming that your new purchase has the stock set up it is a common problem. Steering both pair of wheels from one servo puts a heavy strain on the servo and savers as the guys have said. High torque servos can be expensive but you can solve the problem by using a twin servo set up; one standard servo for each axle. There are anumber of different versions of this mod but I prefer the ESP and Thundertech Racing set-ups. Following on from here you can upgrade the steering rods, the steering crank and decrease turning circle but cutting off the steering stops on the axle carriers on the front or both axles. As with all mods it depends on what you want to achieve and how much do you want to spend. Good luck. Chris
