Isn't this 47358 set just the same as the 84300 & 84301 Avante Hi-Caps? Original Top Force Evo & Egress Hi-Caps were identical, right?

Looks like that seller is trying to take advantage of being the only one with the shocks available.  Tamiya USA has full msrp at $62 so US street price should be under that number.  That equates to 47 GBP or less once stock comes in everywhere.  Still not TRF shaft in CVA cheap but more reasonable for sure.

US MSRP doesn't include sales tax though does it? If it doesn't then that £47 is back up to £60 over here with 20% VAT. Given the price of tamiya aluminium dampers over here (£75 for the DF03 set) I would expect somewhere in the 60s to be honest.

I didn't even think of VAT, you're right we don't price in taxes up front here.

Tamiya USA doesn't charge tax neither do about 90% of online sellers so their MSRP isn't bad but sellers should sell them for much much less

Anyone know the answer to this query? I can't seem to get an answer from TamiyaBase parts database. 47358 doesn't seem to be recognised (unless I'm using it incorrectly....)

I reckon they'd be different.

As far as I know the Top Force uses 'short' dampers both front and rear.

Where the Avante used 'short' on the back, but 'mini' on the front.

I have ordered from Tony's parts before, so I consider him to be a legitimate seller. Maybe not the cheapest seller, but had a pleasant overall experience. One thing to add about Tamiya USA is that they usually ship UPS. The last time I ordered a few small items, they charged me $15 for ground service. The order was well below $100, I think once the order gets over $100, items ship for free.

Received mine today as-well and I think they are different in the sense that 47358 has 4 identically sized cylinders (the bigger ones) where as the avante sets have smaller front cylinders. I suppose if you bought two sets of the rears (84301) then you could make a set up for Top Force but I don't see how that would work out much cheaper, and I don't know exactly what you get in terms of mounting parts in the avante/egress kits either.

Modellbau Seidel has the hi caps for 64.99 Euro which is always a good price price benchmark until Tamico have them. Given the current Euro GBP exchange rate has gone off a cliff and with PayPal it's almost 1:1, Tonystamiyaparts price is pretty good.

Plus his service is always spot on, next day with him is next day. I have found myself ordering from him and paying the small premium more and more recently knowing his service is so good.

You can't compare to Tamiya USA pricing really as their pricing is always all over the place and kits and parts unless on fire sale can often be double the UK/EU price or much more.

Not sure whether to order the hi caps yet though but they never hang around for long.

Prescient, my advice would be get them while you can, otherwise you will be kicking yourself......

Mine shipped from Tony's yesterday ......

Are these hicaps that much better than the stock cvas? or is there a specific performance improvement on offer?

The stock CVA's are ok, and do their job dampening and in most cases are just fine. That being said, the high caps are a much more refined damper. Tighter tolerances, buttery smooth surfaces, with a bit better shock shaft seals make them operate with more precision. Are they needed? No, but once you try a set, you won't put your old CVA's back on.

The front shocks are a bit long for an Avante or Egress, but really I think it depends on how you mount them.  If you use an Egress front tower (which has the highest mounting point compared to the Avante or Avante 2001) and mount the bottom directly to the arm (like with the Avante), it might work.  I wouldn't bet on it, though.

The rere Top Force Hicaps got repackaged, used to be a nice blister set with just 2 damper.

Now they just throw 4 in a bag.

Had to do it. I'm getting one too :) @Percymon did you see the Hi-Cap announcement? #47358 I'll be buying a few sets when they're available.

I strongly suggest everyone stock up on J-Parts ;)

@Adamcurrie   thanks for the heads up - still have a few spare sets of the 84300/84301 items ;)

I thought I'd post up about the failure I've had on my re-re-re kit, I've only run it 4 times since I finished building it and last time I took it out I noticed it pulling to the right on acceleration and being very tail happy as if all the power was going only to the rear wheels.

When I checked it over I noticed that one of the front wheels wasn't spinning when on throttle (when held off the ground) so I just assumed the front diff had somehow worked loose... unfortunately this wasn't the case, in fact I've somehow managed to completely strip all the splines from the large pressure plate on one side of the diff (pressure plate B), I realise the irony of this considering what I wrote in my original post earlier in this thread but to be honest I'm pretty stumped as to how that can even happen? I have to assume it's due to poor manufacturing of the plate. I haven't crashed or flipped the car at all, and I have only run it on flat surfaces so far so I can't see how I could have put enough torque through the front diff to strip the splines.

I have managed to get it running again by taking my now 26 year old front diff from my original kit and swapping it out but I am pretty dissapointed and can't help but feel like the quality of the Tamiya kits and parts in general aren't as good as they used to be? I did compare the original and re-release drive shaft cups that join to the differential and the splines are not only a different shape but the original ones definitely have more depth to them.

Two other issues I've had were with one of the washers being missing (one of the convex ones from the diff) from the other re-re-re kit I bought (annoying but I wasn't too bothered as I'm not going to be running that one) and I also bought a set of the new hi-cap dampers and found that one of the small alloy spacers hasn't been machined properly (one edge is rounded off instead of being flat), also my brother bought a Dark Impact kit a couple of years ago and one of the front hub axels was completely bent. These are only small things but even so, I bought original Tamiya kits for years and never had any problems with them at all...

Anyway, hopefully it will run smoothly from now on, I've added an updated photo of it below, as I said I have added a set of the new Hi-Cap dampers and I also won a full carbon chassis set off ebay for £50 (no idea who made it) which I have fitted. I'll post up again if I have any more problems.

I'm not a huge fan of the splined output shafts either, or the diffs for that matter. I think I used shoe goo (aka plumbers glue) to secure those parts instead of contact cement. I probably wont use anything over a sport tuned motor.
